Know Dedicated Diabetes Care, and know the Risk Factors.

**Today is WORLD DIABETES DAY**
Our Riceland Endocrinology Specialist, Jennifer East, imparts her knowledge to commemorate this day.

Type 2 diabetes affects 1 in adults worldwide, and about half of them don’t even know they have diabetes yet. It’s important to know the risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes. Risk factors include:

▶️ Family history of Type 2 diabetes (biological parent or sibling)

▶️ Age over 45 years (although diabetes can occur at an earlier age as well)

▶️ Overweight or obesity

▶️ Are African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian American, or Pacific Islanders

▶️ Had gestational diabetes while pregnant

▶️ Have high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol

▶️ Have prediabetes

▶️Have PCOS

Knowing your risk factors and seeing your healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan can reduce the risks of complications associated with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes. Managing diabetes is a team effort with your healthcare provider, dietitian, taking your medications correctly, exercising, checking your blood glucose levels, and making healthy lifestyle changes that can greatly impact your future
