Boulder Canyon Retreat Center

Boulder Canyon Retreat Center I’m a mind-body-spirit alchemist, teacher, healer, and shaman.

Nestled in the ancient granite cradle of Boulder Canyon, the Boulder Canyon Retreat Center is a nature-based living sanctuary where transformation and healing unfolds through use of sacred plant medicine and the framework of classical Tantra. In order to be fully alive in the present, we must sometimes excavate the stories and patterns from our past. I help create and deepen awareness of the connection between the mind, body and spirit through an alchemical process using earth, water, fire and air... Alchemizing and mining the riches of what we might consider stuck emotions. Past events and old patterns now become rich raw materials to alchemize and thrust us forward into the best and fullest version of ourselves.

Transformation isn't always about adding more. Sometimes it's about dissolution - letting the false fall away so what's real can remain.

Tonight is Maha Shivaratri - the Great Night of Shiva.

In the ta***ic tradition, Shiva isn't a "god in the sky." Shiva is consciousness itself - the stillness that can hold change without flinching. This night is often honored with meditation, prayer, and staying awake into the dark hours as a practice of devotion and inner listening.

Shivaratri is a reminder that transformation isn't always about adding more. Sometimes it's about dissolution: letting the false fall away, so what's real can remain.

If you feel called to sit with this energy tonight, make it simple: a candle, a few minutes of stillness, a hand on your heart, and an honest question you're willing to meet.

Preparation is the ceremony before the ceremony.

A medicine journey can be profound—but medicine can also be distracting: visions, stories, beauty, intensity. Without clear intent, it's easy to wander into experience rather than transformation.

That's why at Boulder Canyon Retreat Center, we don't start by scheduling. We start with preparation.

Before anyone books a medicine journey, you'll have preparation sessions with Shane to clarify your intent, name what's ready to heal, and build the inner structure—the nervous system awareness and somatic grounding—to stay present with what arises.

Because the deepest healing is usually behind what you've learned to avoid.

Preparation gives you a steady center, a clear aim, and the capacity to stay with what's true - so when you enter the medicine, you're not just "having an experience." You're doing real work. Real alchemy. Real change.

If you're ready for real work, step inside.

"I've been to Boulder Canyon Retreat Center three times now, the third time for a group retreat, and it has always been amazing! Shane is other-worldly, and the people he brought in to help facilitate each brought their own deep magic to the practice - with delicious home cooked foods, insightful knowings, and being able to pick up on what each participant was going through, mid-medicine, and how exactly to help pull some deep rooted funk out of us. I had the best weekend with my group, and can only hope we can do another next year. If you are looking for a safe space to unroot your deepest s**t and change your perception of life on earth this round, you have come to the right place."

this is what we're here for 🙏💕

We're living in intense times - where the collective shadow is rising to the surface. For many people, that doesn't just look like stress. It looks like fear: the kind that tightens the chest, scrambles sleep, and turns the mind into a battleground.

One of the subtle yet powerful tools Shane uses in his work with clients are flower essences. They're gentle, but they're not shallow. They can support the emotional body when we're doing real inner work - especially when the nervous system is overwhelmed.

Today we're focusing on three essences for fear and shame:

Mimulus:
for fear of known things. Fear of illness, pain, accidents, poverty, the dark, being alone, misfortune. The everyday fears people often carry quietly, sometimes for years.

Aspen:
for fearful anxiety that's vague or unnamed. That sense of dread without a clear reason. Night terrors. The feeling something awful is going to happen, even when you can't name what. The nervous system in a state of vigilance.

Pine:
for guilt and self-reproach. When you blame yourself, even when you've done nothing wrong. When shame steals your ability to enjoy your life. The inner judge that never rests.

If any of these feel familiar, consider this a small lantern on the path: you're not broken—you're responding to a world that's asking a lot of the nervous system right now. And that's exactly why this work matters.

Under all the Valentine's noise, there's something quieter turning.

Imbolc arrives at the beginning of February: an ancient Celtic holy day linked with Brigid, keeper of the flame, patron of healing and craft.

It marks the halfway point between winter and spring. Not quite spring yet.
But the seeds are stirring, even under frozen ground.

A few ways to honor it:
• Light a candle with one question: What wants to be born through me?
• Clean one small corner of your home—make space for new life
• Warm tea, warm hands, warm food—simple devotion
• Speak a blessing over what you're ready to thaw

And if you want an old chant to try outside:
Old man winter, it's time to go!
Take with you these piles of snow!
Melt, snow, melt!
Spring will soon return!
A flame, a fire, all the warmth it brings,
Melt the snow, cold be gone, welcome back the spring!

If you're feeling something new stirring in you, you're not behind. You're right on time.

February opens under an illuminating Snow Full Moon in Leo on February 1st, setting the tone with drama, passion, and the potency of expression.

This is a moment of catharsis - an emotional crest where pressure seeks expression, and transformation is possible, especially when ignited, through Aquarius, by communities of engaged, concerned individuals.

The Sun’s ongoing alignment with Mars has infused this period with urgency and friction. Mars brings heat; conflict, assertion, courage, and at times aggression, while its conjunction with Pluto creates powerful situations. Pluto intensifies whatever it touches, pulling hidden forces into the light and demanding confrontation with what has been buried or denied. This combination exposes raw truths and power struggles, both personally and collectively, and we can see these themes emerging vividly in real-world events.

The Sun’s ongoing alignment with Mars has infused this period with urgency and friction. Mars brings heat; conflict, assertion, courage, and at times aggression.
Leo, the sign illuminated by this Full Moon, rules the heart. It governs creative fire, bold self-expression, and the desire to live visibly and authentically.

On a personal level, this Full Moon invites heartfelt reflection. You might ask yourself:
✨How am I truly engaging with my heart?
✨Where am I being called to show up more fully, more honestly?
✨How am I expressing my unique creative spark?
✨What brings me joy, and am I allowing myself to claim it?

With Pluto now acting as the deeper engine behind our choices, we are asked to look beyond surface desires and listen to what the soul is truly asking for.

What wants to be born through you and what must be released to make room for it?

We thank astrologer, Susan Heinz, for this wisdom about tonight’s full moon. Learn more at susanheinz.com

Something shifts when we come together in community.

We breathe the same mountain air.
Our voices echo together, heartbeats syncing.
Transformation takes root not through pixels, but in real time, with embodied presence and nature alive all around.

We're deeply excited for a year of transformational retreats at Boulder Canyon Retreat Center. Transformation and expansion is happening not just on the land, but in all of us willing to risk stepping into the the unknown

Spring Renewal Retreat is now open for registration, and keep an eye out - there may be an additional international destination on the horizon.

These aren't just plant medicine journeys. They're about releasing old patterns and trauma, inviting purpose and power and creating sacred community with others here to become more.

If we're showing up on your feed, you've probably been looking for us, too.

While the land rests under winter’s watch, Bear appears as a guide in animal medicine—reminding us to honor solitude, rest, and the slow awakening of creativity.

Bear’s wisdom is all about finding strength in stillness, trusting your natural timing, and nurturing what you want to bring into the world. Whether you’re seeking clarity, starting something new, or simply learning to rest, Bear invites you to turn inward and listen.

What is Bear teaching you this season?

What do you want to create, protect, or awaken as you move through these colder months?

Pagos: The Power of Intention

The Mazatec see the mushrooms (niños santos, the “holy children”) as living beings. You don’t take them; you meet them. You approach them with deep respect. They believe that the relationship begins before you even enter the ceremony. It begins with your willingness to give before you ask to receive.

Over the years, this teaching has changed how I hold ceremonies and how I live my life. I used to think of intention as a list of goals: what I wanted to heal, what I hoped to see, and what breakthrough I was chasing. However, the Mazatec helped me view intention differently. They see it as an offering of energy and a vibration that announces your readiness to the universe. When your intention is clear, the medicine knows where to go.

When your intention is clear, the medicine knows where to go.

Intention is the current that carries you through the unknown. It gives shape to your experience without controlling it. Your intention becomes an anchor and an arrow. It reminds you why you came, and what you’re here to surrender to.
