SFHC is a full-service medical, behavioral health, and dental clinic facility that meets the primary healthcare needs of area residents. When we ask our patients why they have chosen us as their healthcare provider, many tell us they first came here because we were a lot closer than the hospital or doctors' offices in town.

Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Women’s Health Center Celebrates National Midwifery Week, October 5-11th.

In celebration of National Midwifery Week, we'd like to introduce Jessica Zimmerman, Certified Nurse Midwife on the women's health team at Western Sierra Medical Clinic.

Jessica graduated from Georgetown University with her master’s degree as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Before that, she spent over a decade working as an ER and Trauma Nurse in hospitals across the country. During those years, she became aware of the significant disparities women face in healthcare and realized that is where her true passion is.

Her goal is to provide holistic, individualized care and education to empower women—not only to bring healthy babies into the world, but to feel supported and confident in their healthcare decisions throughout every stage of life.

Although women with a family history of breast cancer have twice as much risk of getting breast cancer, current studies show that about 85% of women with breast cancer today had no family history of the disease.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's a good reminder to get a mammogram. We don't offer them onsite, but Insight Imaging in Grass Valley does offer free mammograms to uninsured women over 40. Book online: https://insightimaginggv.com/

Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Women’s Health Center Celebrates National Midwifery Week, October 5-11th.

For Andrea “Drea” Gekas, CNM/WHNP, Director of our Women’s Health Center in Grass Valley, becoming a midwife was about more than a career—it was a calling. She says:

“ I became a midwife to walk with women through the journey of their lives. There’s no wealth like the honor of being invited to join women in their best, and sometimes worst, moments. I became a midwife to encircle women with love, understanding, honesty, and equity. To offer women a place to be themselves and feel valued and respected. We are the life bringers and the life changers. And I want the women I walk with to see the beauty and purpose they bring to the world, their families, and to themselves. I became a midwife to stand with women.”

“It's not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth.” – Drea Gekas

We are so grateful for all our midwives who embody this passion and commitment every day!
