DIY get oil out of massage sheets!
1) HEAT 🔥 This is the most important piece of this advice: Is your hot water heater turned up? If it’s not hot enough, it’s not going to wash the oil out of your sheets. You don’t have to turn it all the way up, but you need to have very hot water. If you’re on a budget and you like to keep it turned down to save on your monthly then you can just try turning it up an hour before doing your massage biz laundry. Also, running hot water in the faucet closest to your machine just before hitting the start button will bring more hot water into the machine faster.
2) SOAP 🫧: put a little extra soap in the tub of the machine. I throw it against the wall of the tub so that it gets dispersed and is not sitting on fabric
3) 💆🏻♀️ LOW HEAT DRY: turn heat down on your dryer. High dryer heat = smelly sheets
4) NO HARSH SOAP: be sure to use fragrance-free and die-free laundry soap. Clients can be sensitive to soaps and you don’t want their skin in contact with harsh soaps. If you do choose to use a harsh soap once in a while to clear the sheets of oil, be sure to rinse those sheets several times before having them in contact with your clients skin. However, if your heat is up, you really don’t need a harsh soap. I know a lot of people suggest using Dawn but I have found that it’s unnecessary.
5) 👯♀️ Don’t overfill your machine. I would say three sets max.
6) 🕊️ rotate your sheets. Don’t use the sheets you just washed today if you have sheets in your closet, use them first. Use the sheets you washed yesterday because if those sheets sit around too long, they also will end up smelling. Don’t work on the weekend? Then don’t do your laundry on Friday and let the laundry sit for two days. Do it closer to the start of your work week.
6) ✨SHEETS ONLY: don’t mix towels in with your sheets. It will tempt you to turn up the heater on your dryer. a hot dryer = rancid smelly oil.
