Gaia Soap Supply is Northern California's Original SOAP refill shop...

With a vision to reduce the use of single use plastics, Save Our Ailing Planet, aka S.O.A.P. opened the doors in Nevada City back in February of 2010 to provide bulk soap refills for body and home. Since the beginning, we have refilled over 100,000 used bottles in the old and new store. That means less caps and bottles being purchased, less plastic being tossed away, and only buying as much as you need! In 2019, new owners Jared & Megan took up the reigns, stirred up some new energy into the shop and renamed to Gaia Soap Supply to pay homage to Mother Earth. Through power outages, pandemic complications, and climate change-fueled fire seasons, Gaia Soap Supply has continued to proudly serve our fellow Nevada County. Gaia Soap Supply only carries ecologically-friendly products that are free from harmful parabens, sulfates, and artificial colors and fragrances. Household and body care products from brands Dr. Bronner's, Rustic Strength, Griffin, Azure Clean, and ECOS, as well as so many more, are available for refills by-the-ounce, and you are encouraged to bring your own clean and empty container. The community has you covered...! The house-made, custom products are created with skill, integrity, and good vibes, and range from oh-so-yummy Amber & Sandalwood Body Butter, to practical and needed Hand Sanitizer. In between the shelves and tables of house-made and brand name products, you'll also find a slew of local, female-owned and operated lines like Egyptian Grace, Remedy Garden, Elka Herbals, and Canna Joint Relief. Have something in mind for yourself or as a personalised gift? Let us custom blend your own salt scrub, lotion, or even your dish or laundry soap with our selection of quality essential oils. Other items available at the shop in bulk are a wide variety of specialty and carrier oils (some crafted by local female plant wizards!), bath salts, and basic ingredients for making your own potions and products like baking soda, citric acid, and borax. Hi local community!
If you’ve ever been to our shop you, may have noticed that next door is the ONLY place to rent videos in the area, at Nevada City Video. We are happy to support our neighbor on her quest to secure funds that will go to the longevity of her business. She’s been operating as the sole provider for video rentals since 2020.

With the growing impact of streaming, and the higher costs of purchasing inventory, this go fund me was created in a grassroots effort to support Debbie (and our local community who CANNOT stream due to their/our rural location).

Save Our Ailing Planet Is Northern California's Original SOAP refill shop.... With a vison to reduce the use of single use plastic, S.O.A.P. opened it's doors in Nevada City February of 2010. Since then, we have refilled over 18,000 used bottles in our store. That means less caps and bottles being purchased and less plastic being thrown away or tossed in the recycling bin. As the concept grows, we hope other towns will follow the model of refill shops, and together, we can have a choice. We can now boycott the consumer model, and buy less, in our own glass bottles. We can make a difference by refilling our containers and keeping harmful plastics out of our oceans, streams, and rivers. S.O.A.P. also only carries products that are leaping bunny certified, and are free from harmful parabans, sulfates, and fragrances. Brands like Dr. Bronner's, Vermont Soap, EO Company, Giovanni, California Baby, and Alafia are all available for refill.
