In 1970, Story County Hospital launched its own ambulance service — a major step forward for emergency care in our community.
Prior to that time, local funeral directors often filled the gap when organized emergency response systems didn’t yet exist. They weren’t medical professionals, but they understood urgency and compassion.
As emergency medicine evolved in the 1960s and 1970s, new standards required trained EMTs and fully equipped ambulances, establishing the foundation for what is now our Mobile Intensive Care Services.
