Hot 26 & 2 (classic Bikram Hatha yoga) is 90 minutes, 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, in a mirrored room that is 105 degrees at 40% humidity.
It's mentally & physically therapeutic. It's challenging and there is a ton of feedback from the mirror and the teacher. This makes the practice very conducive to flow state. From my experience, flow state "re-orders" consciousness, and resets the nervous system.
The practice also trains the ability to fully relax while maintaining maximum physical & mental effort. This ability is priceless.
It's a potent stimulus for flexibility, cardio-respiratory fitness (nasal breathing cardio), proprioception (movement), interoception (ability to sense the internal state of your body), balance, isometric strength, mindfulness (awareness, the opposite of mindlessness), and concentration (laser beam focus).
In addition, it's great for the spine, the joints, and muscles & patterns seldom trained in other systems, such as: the neck, the feet, a rounded spine, knees over toes, balancing on the balls of the feet, and self-myofascial release (elbow killing/healing pose). It's an authentically holistic practice and a perfect compliment to kettlebell training.
