New Blog Post: "Emotional Regulation Is Not About Accepting the Unacceptable"

Emotional regulation is everywhere right now and often associated with nervous system regulation when discussing coping skills. We’re told to breathe, ground, calm down, and self-soothe. Nuance is important here. What should we do in moments when what we’re reacting to is actually wrong ? For ma...

Diosa Mental Health had an eventful year for 2025. Thanks to all who shared, recommended, and supported. Moving into St. Paul’s Parish House in downtown New Albany and finishing Level 1 Internal Family Systems training were the major highlights of the year. Plus all the awesome new people I met this year. Welcoming in more joy, growth, hope, and healing in 2026.

September Wrap Up:

✔️Professional development is always on-going. I immersed myself deeper in IFS training with a Global Majority Group through the IFS Institute. Internal Family Systems, while developed using established theoretical frameworks in psychology, also takes inspiration from healing modalities rooted in BIPOC traditional practices. I felt it was especially important to learn within the cohort I’m included.

✔️Building up my sand tray resources as another offering of expressive therapy. Being a small business owner on a budget, I up-cycled, DIY’ed, and thrifted as much as I could. I also took a damaged side table and repurposed it with mermaid themed decoupage to use as my sand tray stand.

✔️ I noticed the TikTok trend of using an ai photo editor to make a picture of your adult self hugging your younger self was what IFS can feel like and jumped on the bandwagon. That snip of a song trending too? Heartstrings. Pulled.

✔️ Felt grateful for the people who found their way to my office, and that I can contribute to providing a space that feels welcoming, respectful, and supportive.

Alright, September. You were unpredictable, but we walked it out. Be kind to us, October.

The office will be closed this weekend, because there will be Food, Fun, Art, and Butterflies to enjoy!

I walked into Suite 200 at 1015 E Main Street in New Albany as the previous tenant was preparing to leave and knew I had found a home for Diosa Mental Health. We made a lot of progress in July getting moved in, inviting in old and new clients, and creating a cozy space where people can feel welcome and safe.
