This week/end will have be very chilly! 🐱 Please bring your pet inside, in a garage if possible or straw with a dog/cat house to protect from the wind and chill. Please check water bowls as they will likely be frozen. ☃️Looks like another chilly winter! 🥶

PET OWNERS NEED TO PREPARE FOR EXTREME COLD 🥶

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Service is asking all pet owners to take immediate action as dangerously cold temperatures are expected across our area.

According to the current forecast, temperatures are predicted to drop into the very low 20's with the possibility of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. These conditions are hazardous for animals and can quickly become life-threatening. Pets left outdoors in freezing weather are at risk of frostbite, hypothermia, organ failure, and death.

Our pets depend on us to protect them. The safest place for dogs and cats during extreme cold is inside your home. Please bring them indoors where they can stay warm, dry, and have access to fresh water.

Companion animals are part of our families. When temperatures reach dangerous levels, leaving them outside is not an option. We urge all residents to take responsibility and ensure their pets are brought inside and kept safe during this severe cold snap.

If you see an animal left outdoors in these conditions, please contact us. Together, we can prevent unnecessary suffering and keep our community’s animals safe. 🐾❄️
