Charlene Gail Davis Block passed away on December 30, 2025, in Grantsboro, North Carolina.She was born on March 9, 1965, in New Bern, North Carolina, to William “Billy” Paul Davis Sr. and Dorothy “Dottie” Louise Pake Davis. Charlene, affectionately known as “Charlie” to her friends and family, lived life the way she wanted to, embracing adventure wherever it found her. Her life was marked by curiosity and adventure, with experiences ranging from serving as first mate on a charter boat to driving commercial trucks. She found joy in her animals, including her dogs, cats, and chickens. Above all else, she was the proud and loving mother to Alexander “Alex” Block, and she leaves a legacy of fun, passion, and warmth.

As we step into a new year, we pause to remember.

At Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory, the start of a new year is a time of reflection, hope, and remembrance. During our recent Season of Remembrance candlelight service, we were honored to gather with families we served in 2025, lighting candles, sharing quiet moments, and holding close the memories of those who will forever remain in our hearts.

Though the holidays may have passed, the message remains timeless:
love does not end, memories do not fade, and those we cherish are always with us.

Keith William Alexander, 75, of New Bern, went home to the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Keith proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring as a First Class Petty Officer, and remained a devoted supporter of fellow veterans through the Fleet Reserve. A faithful member of Two Rivers Baptist Church, Keith loved volunteering, spending time with his church family, and serving others.

He will be remembered for his deep love for his wife of 43 years, Karen, his devotion to his children and grandchildren—who affectionately called him “Poppie”—and his quiet, selfless nature. Keith had a dry sense of humor, loved tinkering and fixing anything, adored his 1966 Charger “The Beast,” enjoyed camping—especially in Colorado—and never passed up good coffee or a chocolate or strawberry milkshake.

A Memorial service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 am at Two Rivers Baptist Church in New Bern.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warrior Project.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul Catholic Church, located at 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern, NC 28562. A celebration of Suzan’s life will follow at the New Bern Golf and Country Club, 4301 Country Club Road, Trent Woods, NC 28562.

NATIONAL POINSETTIA DAY - December 12, 2025 -
National Poinsettia Day is celebrated annually on December 12th, honoring the iconic holiday plant and commemorating the death of Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico who introduced the plant to America. Established by Congress in 2002, the day recognizes the plant's history, from Aztec use to modern commercialization by the Ecke family, coinciding with Mexico's Day of the Virgin.
