About 15 minutes ago, Donald Trump signed the federal funding bill that completely bans h**p nationwide.
Not just Delta-8. Not just THCA.
ALL consumable h**p.
An entire industry that has helped millions of people… gone.
Thousands of small businesses… wiped out.
Families like ours, who built their livelihood on something LEGAL and life-changing… left with nothing.
We are sitting here angry, heartbroken, and honestly in disbelief. We did everything right. We followed the laws. We supported our community. We helped people. And with one signature, the federal government decided none of that matters.
This wasn’t about safety. This wasn’t about science.
This was politics, and small businesses are the ones paying the price.
Above the Roots has been our passion, our income, our future, and a huge part of our identity. And now we are being told it’s over. Just like that.
But let us be clear:
We are not going down quietly.
We are going to fight for our customers.
We are going to fight for our business.

We’ve been keeping this one quiet for a while… but it’s time to say it out loud 🩵
The owners of Above the Roots are officially opening a children’s consignment store, Tiny Totz!
We’ve spent the last couple months collecting, sorting, washing and preparing clothing and we are now at 6,000+ pieces ready to go 😭✨
We are currently waiting on our final LLC paperwork to lock in our location and announce our grand opening date, but we are SO close.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us in every chapter of our journey. Truly. This community has helped us grow one dream into two.

Above the Roots is New Bern’s very first stand alone CBD dispensary. We are veteran owned and operated. We also carry all organically grown products that can be used from head to toe or ingested. All of our products are tested by multiple companies before hitting the shelves to ensure that you are getting the BEST products out there.
MEET THE OWNERS:
All the way from Mustang, OK we bring to you... Laura McCoy! Laura moved to New Bern, NC in 2016. (The hot, muggy summers and palmetto bugs must have won her over.) Starting off, Laura worked as a waitress and then quickly moved up the totem pole to a bartender; no surprise there. With her outgoing personality and quick wits she was perfect for the job. (TIP YOUR BARTENDERS PEOPLE.) Shortly after meeting Max, Laura pursued a new job renting homes. -Blah Blah Blah... Let’s get to the CBD part already!- CBD shops were popping up all over Laura’s hometown sparking her interest. After weeks of research, she went on a hunt for CBD shops nearby and came up empty handed. Driven to show others this magical plants benefits, she drafted out a plan. Fulfilling both her passion for healing people while also promoting local businesses and artists, Above the Roots grew into a reality.
Born and raised south of the Mason Dixon line, straight from Craven County we bring you the jet flying, limousine riding, stylin & profilin, wild west son of a gun Maxwell. Max graduated from New Bern High School (08, DON’T HATE!) and then joined the U.S. Army the following year in November 2009. Being trained in the intelligence field he was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland where he worked for the National Security Agency. All the while staying current on the legalization efforts for Medical Cannabis across America. As the movement built larger and larger he decided the time was right to exit the Army, settle down and return home to his family. After meeting Laura and becoming more focused on owning a small business they set off to learn more about CBD and its healing properties. Out came Above the Roots. While bartending at a local establishment at night and running a business during the day, Maxwell finds the time to educate himself in preparation for a possible expansion into the cultivation of Medical Cannabis in the future, his dream come true.
OUR PRODUCTS:
If it is on our shelves, it is compliant with ALL of North Carolina’s CBD laws.
A composition of less than nine-tenths of one percent tetrahydrocannabinol by weight.
A composition of at least five percent cannabidiol by weight.
Containing no other psychoactive substance.
All of our products are made using locally and organically grown H**p. We carry oils, lotions, v**e juices, beauty products, pet products, edibles, beverages... pretty much anything that you can think of CBD except household cleaners but we are sure the farms are working towards that.
