April 21, 2023, New Bern, NC – Crews are currently battling the Great Lakes wildfire estimated at 7,000 acres on the Croatan National Forest. The incident commander warns residents and visitors that smoke will visible and impact the Catfish Lake and Great Lakes Road areas. Additionally, the Black Lake OHV area is closed until further notice.

Visitors are reminded that it is prohibited to fly a drone in or near an active wildfire area. The public should be aware of the potential for smoke in the area and drive with caution around working personnel on Great Lake Road and surrounding areas.

FEBRUARY IS AMERICAN HEART MONTH

If you have any of the following symptoms,
CALL 911 FIRST – DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF OR HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE you to the hospital unless you have NO OTHER OPTION! Ambulance personnel can start care as soon as they arrive AND you are directly admitted to the Emergency Room without waiting. Today heart attack victims can benefit from new medications, such as clot-busting drugs, but to be effective these drugs must be given within a certain time frame after heart attack symptoms appear.
ASPIRIN – If there is no history of aspirin allergy or bleeding, chew one 325mg aspirin slowly.

HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
• Chest discomfort that may last more than a few minutes or go away and come back. It may feel like squeezing, fullness, pressure, or pain.
• Pain or discomfort in the upper body, including arm, left shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or below the breastbone.
• Difficulty breathing or shortmess of breath (with or without chest pain).
• Sweating or “cold sweat”.
• Indigestion, heartburn, nausea, or vomiting.
• Light-headedness, dizziness, or extreme weakness.
• Anxiety or rapid or irregular heartbeat.
