If you’ve never heard of Sensory Day at the N.C. State Fair, that’s kinda the point, it’s one of the best things they do, and a lot of folks don’t even know about it.

It’s quiet, calm, and completely about inclusion.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, the fair takes a deep breath. The rides and games are open, but the lights and music are turned off. The vendors do the same. Even the stages trade big amps for soft acoustic sets. The loudspeaker only chimes in if someone’s lost — otherwise, it’s peace and quiet on the midway.

Inside the Graham Building, the “Bandwidth Chill Out Zone” is open all day with soft lights, gentle music, and a place to take a breather. Folks can check out noise-cancelling headphones or take part in fun, inclusive games built so everyone can join in.

It’s a side of the fair that reminds you what this whole thing’s really about, making sure everyone gets to be part of North Carolina’s favorite tradition. Inclusion isn’t just invited; it’s celebrated. 💙

If you’re a parent to a deaf or hard of hearing child, we invite you to join our October Parent Support Chat, “Singing into Stories: A Musical Path to Early Literacy,” on Thursday, October 23, from 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.

Hear from Krissa Britsch, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert., AVT, and Nanette Thompson, LSLS Cert., as their presentation highlights the vital role music plays in supporting language and literacy development in children with hearing loss. Parents will discover how rhythm, melody, and musical engagement enhance listening, speech, vocabulary, and reading skills. They will also share practical strategies for incorporating music into daily routines.

Visit https://agbell.org/event/parent-chat-singing-into-stories-a-musical-path-to-early-literacy/ to register today!

By the end of this session, parents will:
⭐ Understand the connection between music, language, and literacy in children with hearing loss.
⭐ Identify how musical elements support speech and listening development.
⭐ Explore evidence-based benefits of music for early communication skills.
⭐ Gain practical tools to integrate music into everyday learning at home.
