Hearing loss doesn’t usually happen overnight.
It happens gradually and often goes unnoticed.

Here are 10 signs of gradual hearing loss to pay attention to:

Turning the TV volume up louder than others prefer
Being told you’re speaking louder than necessary
Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
Needing to see someone’s face to understand them
Feeling like people are “mumbling”
Struggling to hear in noisy places like restaurants
Difficulty understanding phone conversations
Feeling mentally exhausted after listening all day
Avoiding social situations because it’s too hard to hear
Hearing words… but not understanding what was said

Many people experience several of these without realizing they’re connected.

Hearing loss isn’t always about volume. It's often about clarity, processing, and effort.

If this list feels familiar, it may be time for a hearing test.

Early awareness makes everything easier.

Hearing loss rarely happens overnight.
It happens slowly over time.

So slowly, in fact, that most people don’t realize how much they’re missing.

It’s like sitting in a room as the sun sets.
The light fades little by little…
but you don’t notice how dim it’s become
until you finally turn the light on.

That’s what many patients experience
when they try properly fit hearing aids for the first time
they suddenly realize what they haven’t been hearing.

Another common sign?

Phone conversations feel harder than in-person ones.

And there’s a reason for that:

You lose visual cues like facial expressions and lip reading
Sound is only coming through one ear instead of both

Hearing loss isn’t always obvious.
Sometimes it shows up in subtle ways like this.

And awareness is the first step.

Do you find yourself turning the TV up…
just a little more each time?

To you, it feels comfortable.
Normal, even.

But if the people around you are constantly saying,
“Why is it so loud?” That difference matters.

Hearing loss doesn’t always feel like something is wrong.
Sometimes it shows up as a difference in perception.

What sounds “fine” to you
may sound much louder to everyone else.

And that gap can be one of the earliest signs that your hearing is changing.

It doesn’t have to be severe.
It doesn’t have to be obvious.

But it’s worth checking.

A simple hearing test can give you clarity and help you understand what’s really going on.

You might hear just fine at home.

But what happens when you step into a busy restaurant?

For many people, that’s where hearing challenges start to show up.

You may notice:

It’s harder to hear the person sitting right across from you
You find yourself leaning in just to catch parts of the conversation
You miss things happening around you, like a server asking a question from behind
Or you start avoiding those environments altogether because it’s just too difficult

That contrast matters.

Hearing loss doesn’t always show up in quiet, one-on-one conversations.
It often reveals itself in real-world environments with background noise.

And if you’ve started changing your behavior because of it
that’s worth paying attention to.

Awareness is the first step toward better hearing.

Being considered for Best of New Braunfels is something we don’t take lightly.

Not because of the title.
But because of what it represents.

Every conversation we’ve had in the office.
Every patient who trusted us when something felt off.
Every family member who brought someone in and said, “just get it checked.”

This place has welcomed us, supported us, and allowed us to do work that actually matters.

If you feel like Hear In Texas has been a small part of your life, your family, or your health...
We’d be honored to have your support as we move toward the Top 3 before April 17th.

There’s something special about showing up in the community. Not just to talk about what we do, but to truly connect.

From local expos to everyday conversations, these moments give us the opportunity to meet the people of New Braunfels, share resources, and support those who may be navigating hearing challenges.

We’re also currently organizing health screenings for city employees, with a full schedule coming together soon to ensure consistent access to hearing care throughout the year.

And of course… Hero is never far behind.

Our therapy dog, Hero, joins us at many of these events. Offering comfort, connection, and a few extra smiles along the way. He’s just as loved in the office, where patients often ask for a little extra time with him.

This is what community care looks like to us.
Presence. Support. Connection.

Not all training days are serious around here…

A little behind-the-scenes moment from Lyric training with Dr. Sally and Dr. Anna because even while we’re growing in our knowledge, there’s always room for laughter.

At Hear In Texas, it starts with the team.
We learn together.
We grow together.
And we show up for our community as real people first.

Because the best care comes from a team that genuinely enjoys what they do and who they do it with.
