When David Moody experienced a massive cardiac event, he was brought to our emergency room where he was shocked seven times before being placed in a medically induced coma. Because he had attended our cardiac rehab before following a mild heart attack, members of our staff instantly recognized him and visited his room to pray over him.
David would spend the next three weeks in our ICU surrounded by a team that cared deeply for him. When he awoke, he would face a tough road to recovery. His kidneys were failing and required dialysis, and his motor function had deteriorated, leaving him almost unable to walk, lift things or carry on with a normal life. He was placed on the heart transplant list, his wait longer due to having the less common O positive blood type.
He chose to return to our cardiac rehab, where he trusted he would receive the support and care he needed. David learned the day after the anniversary of his near-death experience that he had been taken off the heart transplant list because he was doing “medically too well.”
Today, he is back at work and able to walk and speak clearly again, doing everyday tasks he once lost like woodworking, playing music, teaching Sunday school at his church, and traveling. He is grateful for the support of his friends and family, and for our staff, who he says saved his life.
