“Wait—hold on, you need context first…” 😅

POV: trying to explain your entire family history in one session.

Our families of origin play a huge role in how we think, feel, and relate to others—and it’s okay to take the time to unpack that. Therapy is a space to make sense of it all, at your own pace.

Behind every session at Riverbend is a team that truly works together. 💙

We consult, collaborate, and support one another so that when you walk through our doors, you’re not just getting one perspective...

You’re getting the strength of a connected, experienced group of clinicians who care deeply about this community.

We’re proud to serve New Braunfels.

When we’re not in the office, you might find us floating the Comal, spending an evening at Wurstfest, catching live music at Gruene Hall, or enjoying the charm that makes this place special.

We live here. We raise our families here. We’re invested here.

And just like we support each other, we’re here to support you. 🌿

When therapy actually clicks 🤝

“I don’t know what I’m doing… but I think I’m handling things differently?”

That’s usually how growth shows up.

Not loud. Not dramatic. Just subtle shifts you start to notice in real life. A conversation that doesn’t spiral. A hard day that doesn’t wreck your whole week. A thought you don’t automatically believe.

You might not have the perfect language for what’s changing. But if you’re feeling a little steadier, a little clearer, a little more like yourself — therapy is probably working. 💙

Growth in therapy doesn’t always look dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like:
🌱 pausing before reacting
🌱 feeling something without trying to fix it
🌱 saying no and surviving the discomfort
🌱 noticing a pattern a little sooner than last time

Growth is often quiet. Subtle. Repetitive.

It’s not about becoming a completely different person.
It’s about responding differently in moments that used to run you.
If you’re doing the small, steady work (even when it feels slow) that counts.

Progress is not perfection.
It’s awareness + willingness + practice.

St. Paddy’s Day can be fun.
It can also be a trigger.

If you’re choosing to stay alcohol-free this year, that doesn’t mean staying home or missing out. It just means going in with a plan.

A few things that help:
- Decide ahead of time what you’re drinking (mocktail, soda, sparkling water)
- Drive yourself so you can leave when you want
- Go with people who respect your choice
- Have an exit plan if the vibe shifts
- Check in with yourself honestly about what you’re ready for

You’re allowed to protect your progress.
You’re allowed to have fun without alcohol.
And you’re allowed to celebrate in ways that don’t cost you tomorrow.

Sober doesn’t mean boring. It means intentional. 🍀

Spring Break energy is… a lot. 😅
If your house already sounds like a WWE entrance theme and it’s only Monday, you’re not alone. Loving your kids and feeling overwhelmed by them can exist at the same time.

A few local ideas if everyone needs to get out of the house:

🖼️ McKenna Children’s Museum (touch everything, burn energy)
🛝 Landa Park for playgrounds, paddleboats, or a picnic by the Comal
💦 Fischer Park’s splash pad and wide-open space
⛰️Natural Bridge Caverns or the Wildlife Ranch for a mini adventure
🖐️ Jungle Jam or Urban Air for indoor chaos on purpose

And also — gentle reminder:
It does not have to be a Pinterest week.

You do not have to fill every hour.
Screens are allowed. Frozen pizza is allowed. Lowered expectations are allowed.
Spring Break is temporary.

Your nervous system matters too. 💛

There’s nothing worse than finally building up the courage to reach out for mental support… and hearing nothing back.

When it comes to your mental health, momentum matters. If you’re ready to move forward, we don’t want you stuck waiting.

At Riverbend, we prioritize fast, thoughtful therapist matching.

That looks like:
✅ We answer calls consistently during business hours
✅ If you reach out after hours or we miss your call, we return by the next business day (often even sooner!)
✅ We help match you with a therapist who fits your needs, preferences, and insurance
✅ We offer a range of experienced clinicians with real availability

Taking the first step is hard enough. We make sure it leads somewhere.

It can feeel reeeeallly good to drop everyone else's expectations and start living for yourself (and P.S. it's NOT selfish to do so!)

People pleasing usually starts as an effective survival strategy.

It can come from:
- Growing up around conflict or unpredictability
- Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions
- Wanting approval, safety, or connection
- Learning that “being easy” kept things calm

The problem?
- You overextend
- You avoid hard conversations
- You say yes when you mean no
- You slowly lose track of what you actually need

Setting boundaries isn’t about becoming cold (like Mr. Swanson 😝).

It’s about becoming honest.

Turns out, letting adults handle their own issues is not mean. It’s growth.
