Spring Break energy is… a lot. 😅
If your house already sounds like a WWE entrance theme and it’s only Monday, you’re not alone. Loving your kids and feeling overwhelmed by them can exist at the same time.

A few local ideas if everyone needs to get out of the house:

🖼️ McKenna Children’s Museum (touch everything, burn energy)
🛝 Landa Park for playgrounds, paddleboats, or a picnic by the Comal
💦 Fischer Park’s splash pad and wide-open space
⛰️Natural Bridge Caverns or the Wildlife Ranch for a mini adventure
🖐️ Jungle Jam or Urban Air for indoor chaos on purpose

And also — gentle reminder:
It does not have to be a Pinterest week.

You do not have to fill every hour.
Screens are allowed. Frozen pizza is allowed. Lowered expectations are allowed.
Spring Break is temporary.

Your nervous system matters too. 💛

There’s nothing worse than finally building up the courage to reach out for mental support… and hearing nothing back.

When it comes to your mental health, momentum matters. If you’re ready to move forward, we don’t want you stuck waiting.

At Riverbend, we prioritize fast, thoughtful therapist matching.

That looks like:
✅ We answer calls consistently during business hours
✅ If you reach out after hours or we miss your call, we return by the next business day (often even sooner!)
✅ We help match you with a therapist who fits your needs, preferences, and insurance
✅ We offer a range of experienced clinicians with real availability

Taking the first step is hard enough. We make sure it leads somewhere.

We don’t take words like this lightly.

Growth takes courage. Showing up takes effort. And it’s an honor to walk alongside clients as they do that work.

We’re grateful for the trust our community places in us — and proud of the steady, collaborative care our team provides every day.

If you’re considering therapy, know this: you don’t have to figure it out alone.

It can feeel reeeeallly good to drop everyone else's expectations and start living for yourself (and P.S. it's NOT selfish to do so!)

People pleasing usually starts as an effective survival strategy.

It can come from:
- Growing up around conflict or unpredictability
- Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions
- Wanting approval, safety, or connection
- Learning that “being easy” kept things calm

The problem?
- You overextend
- You avoid hard conversations
- You say yes when you mean no
- You slowly lose track of what you actually need

Setting boundaries isn’t about becoming cold (like Mr. Swanson 😝).

It’s about becoming honest.

Turns out, letting adults handle their own issues is not mean. It’s growth.

Ever wonder what your therapist is reading lately? 👀📚

In this video, Kat, our clinically supervised intern, shares two pieces that have been sitting with her recently — both offering grounded, everyday reminders about how we show up in our relationships (with ourselves and others).

✨ The Four Agreements is one of those books that feels simple on the surface, but quietly reshapes how you move through daily life. A few standouts we always come back to:

🌿Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity, especially to yourself.
🌿Don’t take things personally. Most things aren’t actually about you (even when they feel like they are).
🌿Don’t make assumptions. Clarity beats stories we fill in on our own.
🌿Always do your best (knowing your “best” can change from day to day).

🧠 She also reflects on a Gottman article on mismatched s*x drives in couples, which offers an important reminder: differences don’t have to be problems. Understanding, empathy, and ongoing communication can go a long way in maintaining connection and intimacy (even when partners aren’t always on the same page).

If you’re in a season of unlearning, relearning, or just trying to relate a little more gently...we co-sign both of these!

Group therapy can be a powerful complement to individual therapy — not because it replaces one-on-one work, but because it adds something different.

In a group setting, people often gain insight faster by hearing shared experiences, practicing skills in real time, and realizing they’re not alone in what they’re carrying. There’s relief in community, and growth in learning together.

At Riverbend, group work is an important part of how we support our community. We currently offer:
• A free OCD Support Group (bi-weekly evenings)
• An Anger Management Group, led by Jay Jeter, LPC-S, Certified Anger Resolution Therapist

If you’re curious whether group therapy might be a good fit for you, you can explore our current group offerings and waitlists here: 👉 https://bit.ly/3ZuNOLH

This book is a staple on a lot of therapists’ shelves for a reason.

"Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay C. Gibson PsyD helps put language to experiences many people feel but haven’t been able to name—especially around family dynamics, unmet emotional needs, and why certain interactions still feel so charged.

At Riverbend, we often recommend this one because it:
👉 Helps you understand patterns (without villainizing anyone)
👉 Clarifies what is and isn’t your responsibility
👉 Supports healthier boundaries rooted in reality, not guilt
👉 Encourages acceptance without asking you to excuse harmful behavior

Sometimes insight doesn’t change the past...but it can change how you move through the room. 🌿

We've also just opened up a new group for Adult Children of Difficult Parents.

Valentine’s Day can be a beautiful reminder of connection. But connection doesn’t only mean romantic relationships.

It can also be a moment to notice where care already exists in your life: the people who show up, the boundaries you’ve built, the ways you've learned to support yourself over time. Love isn’t limited to one day or one type of relationship.

Send this to someone you appreciate—or save it for yourself as a reminder. 💙

Not every Valentine’s Day needs to be a whole thing. Ya know? 😝

Staying in, grabbing takeout, laughing it off, or making other plans that actually feel good all count. There’s no right way to do this day—just the way that feels the most loving to you. 💛
