"Research shows an estimated 7.8 million premature deaths worldwide in 2013 may be attributed to a fruit and vegetable intake below 800 grams (or 8 servings) a day."

An easy way to make sure you're getting your 8 servings each day is to put all your fruits and veggies in a container and then snack on them throughout the day.

This will also help prevent you from reaching for those sugary and/or prepackaged snacks when you're hungry!

Research going back as far as 1973 shows that consuming sugar can decrease your immune system strength by as much as 43% and that reduction can last up to 5 hours.

Fruits and Vegetables and Your Health

One of the best things you can do to strengthen your immune system and your healthis to eat more fruits and vegetables!

“Studies show that fruits and vegetables provide nutrients like beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E that can boost immune function. They are also rich in antioxidants and help reduce oxidative stress, which occurs naturally and can lead to cell and tissue damage.”

Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant that can reduce inflammation and boost immune function by increasing disease-fighting cells in the body. Excellent sources include sweet potatoes, carrots, and green leafy vegetables.

Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that help to destroy free radicals and support the body’s natural immune response. Sources of vitamin C include red peppers, oranges, strawberries, broccoli, mangoes, lemons, and other fruits and vegetables. Vitamin E sources include nuts, seeds, spinach, and broccoli.

Research shows vitamin D supplementation may reduce the risk for viral infections, including respiratory tract infections, by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory compounds in the body.” (source:

The USDA recommends a minimum of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day but according to one of the most extensive studies on this topic to date, eating 8 servings a day of fruits and vegetables at minimum is best. Yes, 8!

Here’s why.

“According to this new comprehensive study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, that examined 95 population studies, the risk of dying prematurely from all causes was reduced by almost a third, and the risk of cardiovascular disease by about a quarter in people who ate 800 grams of fruit and vegetables-- or eight a day -- compared to those who ate very little or no fruits and vegetables.”

“Two to four million deaths related to cardiovascular disease could be prevented a year if everyone ate the optimal amount of fruits and vegetables, the researchers said, while for cancer that number was approximately 660,000 deaths.”

Much of chronic disease could be eliminated through proper nutrition.

Not only does a poor diet cause disease but it also adds significant stress to your brain and nervous system.

4 Myths When It Comes To High Blood Pressure

1) My blood pressure is genetic. No matter what I was bound to get it.

Dating back to the 1980s and 1990s, research has shown in over 95% of diseases that your genes DO NOT cause disease. This includes high blood pressure. The research has shown us that something has to turn those genes on. That something is your environment or your lifestyle choices.

2) In order to lower my blood pressure I have to go on medication.

There are numerous ways to lower your blood pressure instead of taking medication. Research has shown the following things to be effective in doing this:

Regular exercise, meditation, yoga, appropriate levels of daily water intake, changing your diet, reducing stress, AND regular brain based care.

3) Thanks to my medication my blood pressure is normal so I am healthy now.

This is also known as the band-aid effect. Placing a band-aid on a cut does not allow it to heal. You do not see the cut and yes the band-aid helps keep it clean but does not promote healing. Medication does not “fix” your high blood pressure. The underlying cause still remains an issue and blood pressure meds do not fix that. In fact, medications could make the underlying cause of the high blood pressure worse by making you believe you have it under control when in reality the root cause of the high blood pressure continues to worsen.

4) The only doctor who can help me with high blood pressure is my medical doctor.

The above-mentioned information is all the things we are educated about. Brain based providers are trained in teaching about lifestyle changes to help reduce stress levels. They are also trained to look for the cause of health conditions instead of relying on medications to cover up symptoms.

“Regular exercise reduces inflammation, allowing the immune system to perform better.”

“A 2019 scientific review found that moderate-intensity exercise is linked to lower rates of upper respiratory tract infections, which includes viruses like the flu and common cold.”

“Another 2018 study of 390 people found that those who were trained with an eight-week regimen of moderate exercise reduced their risk of acute respiratory illness by 14%, and their number of sick days by 23%, compared with people who did not receive the exercise training.”

As we head into cold and flu season it’s especially important that you work on strengthening your immune system so that it can help keep you healthy.
