“Every person must submit to and support the authorities over him. For there can be no authority in the universe except by God’s appointment, which means that every authority that exists has been instituted by God.

So to resist authority is to resist the divine order of God, which results in severe consequences. For civil authorities don’t intimidate those who are doing good, but those who are doing evil. So do what is right and you’ll never need to fear those in authority. They will commend you for your good citizenship.

Those in authority are God’s servants for the good of society. But if you break the law, you have reason to be alarmed, for they are God’s agents of punishment to bring criminals to justice. Why do you think they carry weapons?
You are compelled to obey them, not just to avoid punishment, but because you want to live with a clean conscience.

This is also the reason you pay your taxes, for governmental authorities are God’s officials who oversee these things. So it is your duty to pay all the taxes and fees that they require and to respect those who are worthy of respect, honoring them accordingly.

Don’t owe anything to anyone, except your outstanding debt to continually love one another, for the one who learns to love has fulfilled every requirement of the law.

For the commandments, “Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,” and every other commandment can be summed up in these words: “Love and value others the same way you love and value yourself.”

Love makes it impossible to harm another, so love fulfills all that the law requires. To live like this is all the more urgent, for time is running out and you know it is a strategic hour in human history.

It is time for us to wake up!

For our full salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭11‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Sometimes what looks like patience is actually hesitation.

Leaders can delay obedience by waiting for perfect clarity, more confirmation, or the absence of fear when God has already spoken clearly enough to act.

Over-spiritualizing decisions doesn’t strengthen authority; it often weakens it.

Procrastination dressed up as discernment slowly erodes trust, momentum, and confidence both in ourselves and in those we lead.

Scripture reminds us:

“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.” - Isaiah 1:19

Reflection:

➝Where have I delayed obedience out of fear or overthinking?

➝Am I waiting for perfection instead of acting in faith?

➝How can I step forward with courage and alignment today?

Obedience isn’t about control, it’s about alignment with God’s timing and purpose.

Leadership is hard. But healthy leaders do hard things.

Vulnerability, authenticity, teachability/humility and accountability are very important core values in healthy leadership.

Mistakes and messes will be made. It happens with humans. Where there’s people there is p**p. Other people’s messes as well as our own. And leaders have to deal with both.

But it’s how we clean it up that matters. How we learn to course correct and level up.

Leaders fail forward. We LEARN and we change, pivot, and grow from failures.

I am thankful and grateful to have been influenced by leaders in my life who model this well. I don’t envy their position at all. But I determine myself to learn and examine my own heart in the process.

I know God will work all things out for our good. Romans 8:28. But we do have our own part to play.

May we all recognize that we are called to be leaders. We all have influence, no matter the size of that influence.

So let’s evaluate what Spirit is influencing us. Our hearts are our responsibility.

Earlier this week, a video was shared online that rightly led to strong feedback, concern, and criticism from the global Body of Christ regarding the way we navigated our broken trust in Shawn Bolz. Bill, Dann, and I shared about this during our morning worship services yesterday, and we are writing to express our grief and to repent for the places that we have failed and contributed to pain and mistrust.

Please visit bethel.ws/leadershipletter26 to read our full statement, and I invite you to watch yesterday's service on Bethel Online or on Bethel's YouTube channel for more. Links to read the statement and watch the service are below:

Gratitude begins when we pause to recognize God’s faithfulness.

Even through the hardest seasons, He has carried you.

The storms you’ve survived, the challenges you’ve overcome, He was there every step of the way.

When you reflect on those moments, even the “doozies”, thanksgiving flows naturally.

Gratitude shifts your heart, renews your perspective, and opens the door for joy.

Many leaders struggle to say “I was wrong” without adding explanation, justification, or spiritual language to soften the discomfort.

But when apologies come with conditions, they stop being apologies and start becoming defenses.

True authority isn’t diminished by humility.

It’s strengthened by it.

Leadership integrity is revealed in the willingness to take responsibility without spin, excuses, or self-protection.

Scripture is direct:

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” - Proverbs 28:13

Reflection:

➝Can I own my impact without explaining my intent?

➝Do I apologize to restore trust or to preserve image?

➝What would unguarded humility look like in my leadership?

Healthy leadership models repentance, not perfection.

Spiritual authority grows as we learn who we truly are in Christ.

➝When identity is settled, fear loses its voice.

➝Accusation no longer controls the atmosphere.

➝Love becomes the loudest sound in the room.

We were never meant to wrestle fear in our own strength.

We place it at the feet of Jesus and stand firm in truth, peace, and love.

Perfect love doesn’t negotiate with fear.
It casts it out.

📖 1 John 4:18 (NIV) - “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

Many leaders feel unspoken pressure to always have the right word, the right prayer, or the emotional strength others need.

Over time, this pressure leads to exhaustion, disconnection, and quiet burnout.

God never asked His leaders to perform spirituality.

He invites them to abide, rest, and be filled again.

Strength flows from a relationship, not a constant output.

Scripture reminds us:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

Reflect gently:

➝Where have I been carrying pressure God never gave me?

➝When was the last time I rested without guilt?

➝What would it look like to receive before giving again?

You are not sustained by being “on.”

You are sustained by being with Him.

When trust has been broken, leadership can quietly shift into control or emotional withdrawal.

These responses are understandable, but over time, they create more tension and less health.

God invites leaders to rebuild trust with wisdom, not naivety.

Healing doesn’t ignore betrayal; it restores clarity, appropriate boundaries, and mutual responsibility.

Scripture reminds us:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - Proverbs 4:23

Reflect gently:

➝Where has fear shaped my leadership posture?

➝Am I guarding my heart or closing it off?

➝What would wise, measured trust look like in this season?

Healthy trust isn’t rushed or forced.

It’s rebuilt intentionally with truth, boundaries, and grace.

Many leaders carry silent wounds from ministry betrayal, rejection, burnout, or past disappointments.

Left unhealed, these hurts can shape leadership in subtle ways through control, guardedness, or emotional distance.

God does not call leaders to lead from a place of pain.

He calls us to experience His healing so we can lead from wholeness, clarity, and strength.

Scripture assures us:

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

Take a moment to reflect:

➝ Which past hurts are still influencing how I lead?

➝ Where have I relied on self-protection instead of trust?

➝ How might inviting God’s healing transform my leadership?

Healing is not a sign of weakness.

It’s the foundation for leadership that restores, inspires, and empowers.

Inviting input is wise. Avoiding decisions is not.

When leaders hide behind endless consensus, teams often feel stalled, uncertain, and frustrated.

Biblical leadership values discernment, courage, and responsibility.

Leaders are called to listen, pray, and then lead with clarity, providing direction that brings peace rather than paralysis.

Scripture reminds us:

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33

Reflect gently:

➝Where might I be delaying clarity to avoid discomfort?

➝Have I listened and then stepped into responsibility?

➝How could a clear direction bring relief to those I lead?

Clarity isn’t control.

It’s care in action.

Sometimes the answer isn’t found in doing more, but in being still a little longer.

When we choose to linger in His presence, He doesn’t stay silent.

He speaks personally, gently, and precisely into your situation, your questions, and your now.

The challenge isn’t whether God is speaking.

It’s whether we’re willing to quiet our souls long enough to hear Him.

➝Stillness creates space.

➝Presence brings clarity.

➝Listening releases direction.

📖 Psalm 46:10 (NIV) — “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Branding and visibility can slowly shift a leader’s focus from being present with people to managing perception.

Without realizing it, motives can drift, and self-awareness can dim.

God never called leaders to curate an image.

He calls us to cultivate integrity, presence, and faithfulness in the unseen places.

When presence leads, platforms stay healthy. When image leads, connection suffers.

Scripture reminds us:

“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7

Reflect gently:

➝Where might I be managing perception more than tending hearts?

➝Am I more focused on being seen—or being faithful?

➝What would a deeper presence look like in my leadership right now?

Kingdom leadership flows from the heart, not the highlight reel.

Presence keeps leadership rooted, honest, and alive.
