In observance of Black History Month, we came together as a staff to celebrate and recognize the profound contributions of Black scholars in behavioral health, whose influence has advanced awareness and underscored the importance of mental health in all communities.

This week, we were privileged to host Eugene Z. Bertrand for an impactful conversation with our team. His story of and lived experience with domestic violence, paired with a robust Q&A and book signing, created meaningful space for learning, reflection, and deeper dialogue.

As we continue to honor and celebrate Black history, we are grateful for voices like Eugene’s that broaden understanding, inspire change, and remind us of the strength found in community and perseverance. We thank him for his courage, leadership, and commitment to advocacy.

✨ Black History Month Spotlight: Hope Landrine, Ph.D. ✨

Dr. Hope Landrine was a trailblazing leader in health psychology and public health. Her groundbreaking 1992 book, The Politics of Madness, revealed how societal inequities and stereotypes influence psychiatric diagnosis and perpetuate health disparities. She challenged psychology to move beyond individual-focused models and address the broader social conditions shaping health.

An APA Fellow across multiple divisions, Dr. Landrine’s legacy lives on through a scholarship in her name supporting students committed to advancing health equity. 🖤
