In 2024, Michele Keil, one of our Senior Account Managers, was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Before that diagnosis, she was an eight-gallon blood donor.

"One of the hardest parts of cancer for me was knowing I couldn’t actively participate in the lifesaving work I care so deeply about," Michele said.

But last week marked a powerful milestone: her first blood donation since her cancer diagnosis. With friends Amber and Margot donating alongside her, it was a moment filled with excitement, gratitude, and hope.

"I’m incredibly grateful and blessed to be part of this work and this community."

We're so inspired by you, Michele, and proud to have teammates who embody such resilience and compassion.

Meet our Freehold Wegmans Gift Card Sweepstakes winner, Stacy C.!

Giving back is personal for Stacy. Years ago, both of her parents needed blood—her dad required several units of blood and platelets. Today, Stacy is grateful to be healthy and able to give, knowing firsthand how lifesaving donations can be. With the newly opened Freehold Donor Center nearby, it’s never been easier for her to stop in and donate for others in need. ❤️

When Rosalynn heard about the blood emergency, she came straight out to donate.

At a time when the blood supply is critically low and patients are counting on us, people like Rosalynn remind us how powerful one simple act can be. Her decision to roll up her sleeve means someone’s surgery can move forward, someone’s treatment can continue, and someone’s life can be saved.

Thank you, Rosalynn, for stepping up when it mattered most. 💪

Nick had always grown up knowing that blood donation was important. But what really cemented his commitment was his time serving in Afghanistan, where he saw firsthand just how critical blood can be.

“Once I found out I had O negative [blood], I thought it was important. You never know who you’re helping,” he says. “And your body makes more, so don’t be stingy.”

Stories like Nick's are a powerful reminder that blood donation isn’t just a good deed, it’s a lifeline. Thank you for two decades of dedication and for inspiring others to roll up their sleeves and save lives. ❤️

In honor of National Blood Donor Month, we asked our donors one simple question: “Why do you donate blood?” ❤️ And all month long, you filled our walls — and our hearts — with your answers.

Every note represents a life touched, a family helped, and a community that cares deeply for one another. Thank you to everyone who shared their “why” and, more importantly, rolled up their sleeve to save lives.

Here are just a few of the reasons our donors show up.

NYBC was proud to welcome the Future Leaders in Science Symposium to our new Rye campus, bringing high school students from across New York into our state-of-the-art laboratory spaces.

During the event, students heard directly from NYBC hematologists about current medical research and explored hands-on learning opportunities using advanced laboratory equipment. Events like this reflect our deep commitment to community partnerships and to inspiring the next generation of scientists and healthcare leaders.

Two families came together to give back in the most powerful way—by helping replenish the blood supply for patients who depend on lifesaving transfusions. 💙

Hosted by Vinny’s Army and Tina’s Titans, this special donor center blood drive honored the stories of Vinny Cusumano and Valentina Ramirez, two young community members who know firsthand how critical blood donations are. Vinny received more than 30 blood and platelet transfusions during cancer treatment, and Valentina required over 20 transfusions while battling Aplastic Anemia. Their journeys are a reminder that behind every unit donated is a real person, a family, and a life saved.

We’re deeply grateful to every donor who rolled up their sleeve during a time of ongoing blood emergency. Because of your generosity, patients like Vinny and Valentina—and so many others—can continue to receive the care they need. Thank you for standing with these families and showing what community truly means! 🩸✨

I’ve set a goal for 2026 to become an All Seasons donor by donating once each season—winter, spring, summer, and fall. I think it’s important to lead by example when encouraging others to donate."

Our Story

New Jersey Blood Services is a division of New York Blood Center. Founded in 1964, the New York Blood Center Network (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which—among other milestones—developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.
