Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Accident victims, cancer patients, newborns, and those undergoing surgeries all rely on a steady supply of lifesaving donations. But this holiday season, that supply is critically low.

Just one donation can help save up to three lives. It takes less than an hour, but its impact can last a lifetime.

If you’ve ever thought about giving blood, now is the time! ⏱️

A huge congratulations to Melissa S. on making her 100th blood donation! 🎉❤️

This milestone couldn’t come at a more important time — holiday weeks are especially tough for our blood supply, and every pint truly makes a difference for patients spending their holiday in a hospital.

Melissa’s dedication is a reminder that one person’s commitment can help save countless lives. If you’re able, please consider rolling up your sleeve this week and giving the gift that means the most.

Yesterday, New Jersey Blood Services (a division of NYBCe) proudly celebrated the grand opening to our new Freehold Donor Center — a state-of-the-art site that expands local access to both whole blood and, for the first time in the Freehold area, platelet donation.

We are sincerely grateful to the elected officials, healthcare leaders, and community partners who joined us to mark this milestone:
• Jeffrey Brown, Acting Commissioner, NJ Department of Health
• Margie Donlon, MD, New Jersey State Assemblywoman
• Susan Kiley, Monmouth County Commissioner Deputy Director
• Alan Walker, Freehold Township Committeeman
• Dr. James Matera, Chief Medical Officer, CentraState Healthcare System

Their support reflects the shared commitment needed to protect New Jersey’s blood supply — especially as demand grows and holiday-season shortages approach.

Acting Commissioner Jeffrey Brown highlighted the importance of this investment, noting: “The opening of this new donor center represents exactly what we strive for in public health: accessibility, preparedness, and partnership.”

Assemblywoman Margie Donlon, MD emphasized the direct impact on patient care: “Blood is not optional. It has no substitute… Giving residents a modern, convenient place to donate here in Freehold strengthens our healthcare system and reinforces a culture of community support.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who helped bring this center to life. This project demonstrates what is possible when community partners, healthcare systems, and public officials work together toward a shared goal: ensuring patients have the blood and platelets they need, when they need them.

We look forward to serving the Freehold community and welcoming donors into this new home for saving lives!

Cara made her first blood donation in honor of her mom, a frequent O- donor who always reminded her family how important giving blood was.

Cara admits she once thought her own B+ blood type wasn’t really needed—but quickly learned that every type plays a lifesaving role. She was surprised by how quick and easy the process was (the donation itself took just 10 minutes!) and hopes that by sharing her experience, others will see how simple it can be to save lives.

We’re so grateful to Cara for honoring her mom’s legacy and starting her own donor journey—next time, she’s even bringing her partner to join her! ❤️

This Giving Tuesday, choose to give life. ❤️

The United States relies entirely on volunteer donors for our blood supply, yet only about 3% of eligible Americans give blood each year. That means thousands of patients — from trauma victims to cancer patients, expecting mothers to accident survivors — depend on generous people donating throughout the year.

Today, we’re asking you to help add to that 3%. When you don’t have time or money for a big donation, giving a pint of blood is a powerful, and immediate way to make an impact.

Our Story

New Jersey Blood Services is a division of New York Blood Center. Founded in 1964, the New York Blood Center Network (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which—among other milestones—developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.
