The holidays can stir up deep emotions after a loss. If you or someone you love is grieving this Thanksgiving, we know how difficult it can be during a time meant for togetherness. We hope you’re able to find small moments of comfort and peace.

And if you know someone who’s missing a loved one this Thanksgiving, take a moment to reach out. A simple call, visit, or kind message can mean more than you know. Sometimes the smallest gestures remind us that we’re not alone.

Part 3 of our history!

In the 1960s, Bill Trostel took over his family’s firm while maintaining a close friendship with Ted Chapman. In 1966, the two merged their businesses to form the Trostel-Chapman Funeral Home at 507 W. Jefferson Street in New Carlisle.

After Bill Trostel’s death, Ted Chapman partnered with Fred Raff of Springfield, combining operations of both funeral homes. In 1988, Ted Chapman and Fred Raff sold the businesses to Rick and Anne Dunbar and Bob Christmas. Well over 100 years later, the funeral home continues to serve the community with care and compassion.

Part 2 of our history!

In 1895, James Perrine constructed a grand residence in New Carlisle, later converted into the Holwager House Hotel. When it went up for sale in 1928, the Doom brothers purchased it and moved their funeral home into the building, which became one of the most impressive funeral establishments in the area. The same year, Trostel Funeral Home underwent significant renovation and expansion to meet growing demand.

By the late 1940s, a new generation of Dooms and Trostels assumed leadership. Garrett Trostel expanded his family’s funeral home, with his son Bill joining him soon after. John Doom, son of Lemuel, continued operating the Doom Funeral Home until his sudden passing in 1959. Following his death, Ted Chapman and his wife Helen purchased the business and renamed it Chapman Memorial Home.

Stay tuned for part 3!
