We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sabre for bravely sharing her family’s experience after her 4 year old suffered from hot water burns while helping in the kitchen. Stories like this are not easy to tell, but they are incredibly important. By speaking up, you’re helping other parents recognize risks, start conversations, and take steps that can prevent similar injuries.
Burns can happen in seconds-especially in the kitchen-but many are preventable. In honor of this story, here are some important kitchen and burn safety reminders for parents and caregivers.
For parents looking to start cooking with your children, please keep in mind these safety tips:
- Keep the handles of pots and pans turned inward so little hands can’t reach them
- Use back burners whenever possible
- Keep hot liquids, soups, microwaved foods away from table or counter edges.
- Create a “kid free zone” (at least 3 feet) around the stove and cooking areas
- Install k**b covers on stove handles if they are in reach of your children
Thank you again for helping raise awareness and protect other families. 💙 One shared story can truly make a difference.
