Cognitive decline in dementia is considered irreversible; however, some people with advanced dementia may experience a sudden, temporary return of memories, mental clarity, or functional abilities that were thought have been permanently lost. These episodes are known as paradoxical lucidity. Researchers of the Parnia Lab at NYU Langone Health are now studying why and how these events occur, particularly as people with dementia approach the end of life. If you have a loved one suffering from dementia, they may be eligible for this study. If interested, please contact the Parnia Lab research team at pl@nyulangone.org or click on the link in bio
