Yesterday, we hosted our inaugural Hospice Ambassador Community Breakfast, celebrating the incredible individuals, businesses, and elected officials who make up our Class of 2025 Hospice Ambassadors.

This recognition honors those who go above and beyond to educate our community about hospice care and ensure families have choices that prioritize comfort, dignity, and support.

We were thrilled to present Assemblyman Brian Maher with the Ambassador of the Year award, alongside the many Hudson Valley advocates whose dedication strengthens nonprofit hospice care across our region.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — your commitment makes a real difference for families during life’s most challenging moments. 💙

At United Hospice, we understand that hospice care is about living fully, with comfort, dignity, and support.

Our team provides:

💙 Expert pain and symptom management
💙 Emotional and spiritual support
💙 Care at home, in nursing facilities, or at our Joe Raso Hospice Residence
💙 Support for the entire family, including grief counseling

We respond quickly to patient and family needs, tailoring care to each person’s cultural and emotional needs. As one family shared: “United Hospice didn’t just care for my loved one — they cared for all of us.”

Yesterday, our CEO Cara Pace stood alongside hospice providers and advocates from across New York at the State Capitol, united in one clear message to Governor Kathy Hochul: sign S.3437/A.565 into law to protect nonprofit hospices.

This bipartisan bill, which has already passed both legislative houses, would prohibit New York State from approving new applications for the establishment, construction, or expansion of for-profit hospice entities.

Research shows that for-profit hospices too often fall short of the standard of care that patients and families deserve. They tend to provide narrower ranges of services, rely less on skilled clinical staff, and have higher rates of complaints and deficiencies. They also deliver fewer community benefits—such as training, research, and charity care—and provide significantly fewer visits from nurses, social workers, and therapists than nonprofit hospices.

Nonprofit hospices are rooted in compassion, mission, and service—not profit. It is my sincerest hope that the Governor will do the right thing and sign S.3437/A.565 into law today to safeguard quality, dignity, and equity in end-of-life care for all New Yorkers.

Meet our team of care givers here at United Hospice! 💙

Our doctors, nurses, and social workers help bring comfort to patients and families every day.

“Hospice reminds me every day that even in the most difficult times, kindness and presence can bring comfort. I’m grateful to support families through such meaningful moments.

In hospice, I’ve learned that compassion and connection make all the difference. I’m privileged to walk with families and provide comfort when they need it most.” - Diane Ingenito, Director of Clinical Services

“I choose to work for a non-profit hospice because the focus is always on patients, not profits. My values are rooted in honoring the dignity and worth of each person, and in end-of-life care this commitment must be at the heart of everything we do.

In a non-profit setting, resources and decision-making are guided by mission and compassion, whereas in a for-profit model financial pressure can sometimes compete with the needs of patients and families. This alignment makes non-profit hospice the natural home for truly patient-centered care.” - Gamaliel, Director of Counseling

It’s dedicated team members like these who make our mission possible, helping patients live with dignity and families feel supported every step of the way.

Thank you for the compassion and care you bring to our community!

We’re proud to share an op-ed by our CEO, Cara Pace, on a critical issue facing hospice care in New York.

The state’s Certificate of Need (CON) process was created to make sure new healthcare facilities truly serve their communities and deliver high-quality care. But this decades-old system has a loophole — one that’s letting private equity and for-profit interests move into essential areas like hospice care, without the same oversight or accountability.

Thanks to the leadership of Senator Liz Krueger and Assemblymember Amy Paulin, new legislation (S.3437/A.565) would stop the expansion of for-profit hospices in New York and protect the compassionate, community-based care that defines our mission at United Hospice.

Now, Governor Kathy Hochul has the opportunity to make New York a leader in preserving hospice care focused on dignity — not profits.
