Lets talk about those easy runs.

I think we can agree that these are the runs we enjoy the most and even though the effort is low they serve their purpose. Its all about the aerobic base. you should be able to talk easily during these runs and they should make the most of your weekly miles. its more about how it feels than it is about speed.

Easy runs are a great way to strengthen your heart and lungs to improve how efficiently your body uses oxygen. They also train your body to run longer by exercising our slow-twitch muscle fibers and increasing capillary density.

Believe it or not going on a slow ran can actively help you recovery from a previous hard run or just stiff legs in general. That is indeed why they call it active recovery! easy runs are the perfect way to get time on feet without putting too much tension on the tendons and ligaments.

good rule of thumb, if you have to check your watch for your heart rate.. you're probably running too fast! slow it down.

🌈 Eat the Rainbow (No, Not Skittles) 🌈

🟠 Orange & Yellow (carrots, sweet potatoes, mango, squash)
These guys are loaded with beta-carotene, which your body turns into vitamin A. Think: healthy eyes, glowy skin, and superhero-level immune support.

🔴 Red (tomatoes, strawberries, red peppers, watermelon)
Packed with lycopene and other antioxidants. Basically, they’re in there fighting the good fight—against inflammation and for your heart.

🟢 Green (spinach, kale, broccoli, avocado)
Green = detox mode. Full of chlorophyll, fiber, and minerals that help keep things moving, support your cells, and keep your energy steady.

🔵🟣 Blue & Purple (blueberries, grapes, eggplant, purple cabbage)
These deep colors mean polyphenols and anthocyanins, which help your brain, fight stress (the cell kind), and keep you feeling young-ish.

⚪️ White & Tan (garlic, onions, cauliflower, mushrooms)
Low-key MVPs. Garlic and onions especially bring allicin and sulfur compounds that boost your immune system and help your body do some internal spring cleaning.

💡 Pro tip? The more colors on your plate (naturally—not talking about rainbow sprinkles), the better. Every color brings something different to the party.

So next time you’re shopping or cooking, throw some color in there. Your body will know exactly what to do with it.

Today we want to talk about the brain and its relationship with physical activity.

One of the parts of our brain is called the Anterior Cingulate Cortex. This part of the brain is responsible for conflict monitoring, error detection and motivation. It helps let us know when we are doing something we do not want to do. Working this area of our brain frequently can help us go on that run we do not want to run, or that leg day session you are dreading. Make it a regular thing to do things you don't want to do and watch your life change.

The other part of the brain we want to talk about is the Prefrontal Cortex. This portion of the brain helps us with decision making, executive function and what we think is most important, impulse control. Not eating the sweet snacks you want to indulge in so you can work towards that dream body. It can be very easy to slip up on our diet so exercising restraint with food is a good area to focus on. Keeping yourself from impulse purchases so you can afford that next race you want to do so badly.

Practice taking control of these parts of your brain and you will start to see your life and body changing. Good decision and working hard when we do not want to are 2 crucial ingredients to success no matter where you are headed.

What a wonderful country we live in. We really do have so much to be thankful for. I know it’s easy to look at the people who run our country and get disappointed. We need a lot of improvement, it’s true. Let’s not forget how young we are as a country. Did you have everything figured out as a teenager? Probably not. As young as we are and we are still a powerhouse on this globe. Today, we need to stand proud as Americans, stand together, and spread some love. Happy 4th everyone!

💧 Thirsty Thursday: Hydrate with science! 💧

Here’s a hydration truth most people miss:
If you’re only drinking water, you might just be… flushing.

Without electrolytes and a little glucose, your body struggles to absorb and retain the water you drink. Instead, it goes in one end and out the other—fast.

👉 Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium help pull water into your cells and keep it there.
👉 Glucose (just a little!) activates a natural absorption system in your gut, helping water and sodium move into your bloodstream faster and more efficiently.

That’s real hydration.

🧠 Even mild dehydration can lead to:
• Brain fog
• Headaches
• Cramps
• Sluggishness

💡 Pantry Hack: Ditch the sugary sports drinks—try this instead:
• 16 oz water
• 1 pinch sea salt
• 1 tsp maple syrup or honey
• A squeeze of lemon or lime

Real hydration. Real ingredients. No flushing.
