Hello Blooming Families,
Flu season is here, and we’ve already been getting lots of calls to schedule flu shots for your children. We strongly recommend that all kids receive this season’s flu vaccine—last year’s flu really knocked a lot of families down, and prevention is the best protection!
At this time, we want to share some updates about vaccine availability:
For children with state-managed insurance (ie Fidelis, Excellus Child Health Plus, or Medicaid): The state is only sending us small allotments of vaccine every two weeks. This makes it difficult for us to schedule appointments quickly.
If your child is over 3 years old, you may be able to get their flu shot sooner at a local pharmacy.
Children of any age can also receive the flu vaccine at the Health Department.
We know this is frustrating and apologize for the inconvenience. We’ll keep you updated if our supply from the state increases.
For children covered by employer-based insurance: We have plenty of vaccine available now. You can call to schedule a flu shot or Flumist-only visit at your convenience.
