Same-day care. Regardless of ability to pay. No waiting weeks for help.

At the APT Foundation, we believe that when someone asks for help, the answer should be yes — and it should be now!

If you walk into our Access Center in New Haven any morning, Monday through Saturday, between 8–11 AM*, you’ll meet with a licensed clinician, receive a full evaluation, and (if needed) begin medication treatment that same day.

What would you change if you could reimagine the system?

For those who’ve experienced the barriers, the delays, the stigma — or stood beside someone who has — this question hits close to home. What should treatment actually look like?

Let’s open up the conversation. Share your thoughts in the comments below. 👇

Dr. Lynn Madden reminds us that every interaction — from a flu shot to an ER visit — is an opportunity to connect people to care!

What if we treated substance use disorder like any other health condition? What if medications for opioid use disorder were available not only in specialty clinics — but in every setting where people seek care?

It’s time to reimagine how and where treatment begins. Because the earlier we reach someone, the more lives we can save!

Need help but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone — and you’re not out of options!

At APT Foundation, we believe access to care should never depend on your insurance status, your income, or how long you've been struggling.

If you're ready to take the first step, we’re here — with same-day care, expert support, and resources for your loved ones too!

💬 In this video, Dr. Lynn Madden answers some of the most common questions we hear at APT — from how fast you can get medication to how we support families affected by opioid use disorder.

Access to care SHOULDN'T depend on your zip code!

In the most recent episode of our podcast, Dr. Lynn Madden breaks down how restrictive policies around methadone access are costing lives — and why it’s time to bring treatment into more settings, from ERs to nursing homes.

7.5 million people in the U.S. are living with opioid use disorder. Only 12% are receiving medication. We can — and must — do better.

Today is Giving Tuesday — and your support matters more than ever! 💛

At APT Foundation, we believe recovery starts with access. Every day, our Open Access model ensures that people struggling with substance use disorder can walk in, be seen by a licensed provider, and start treatment the same day — regardless of ability to pay.

This Giving Tuesday, your donation helps us:
• Keep our doors open six days a week
• Provide medication and clinical care to those who need it most
• Break down stigma through education and outreach
• Offer hope, dignity, and support to individuals and families in crisis

Together, we can continue breaking barriers to treatment — and build a future where care doesn't wait! Donate now and be part of a movement that saves lives: https://aptfoundation.org/donate/. 🎁

Too often, the systems meant to support those with mental health or substance use challenges end up controlling them instead — through rigid rules, unnecessary restrictions, and inflexible appointments!

But what if care was designed differently?

🎙️ On this episode of Reality Check, Dr. Lynn Madden unpacks how even simple shifts — like offering flexible scheduling — can empower patients and rebuild trust in treatment.

It’s not just about access. It’s about agency!

Mission Statement

Founded in 1970, the APT Foundation’s mission is to promote the health and recovery for those who live with substance use disorders and/or mental illness.

Vision

It is the philosophy of the APT Foundation that the disease of addiction must be treated in a holistic way. It is our belief that addiction is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit, affecting a person’s social and emotional functioning, and that treatment must address all of these needs.
