Speech and language pathologist Alida Engel has over 42 years of experience in the grade schools and private practice, and now works exclusively in private practice in New Haven, Connecticut, with both children and adults. She is also a Board Recognized Specialist in Fuency Disorders, making her one of only some 170 such practitioners in the country. She provides free stuttering screenings for children 6 and under. Free initial consultations are also provided for clients within reasonable driving distance of our New Haven office. We still do not know who will and will not outgrow their stutter.

Intervention with a stuttering specialist is recommended in the early years to support the child and parents. We now know that children as young 3 respond negatively to children who stutter which may negatively impact
these young children.
