The Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine will host its next Medical Grand Rounds as part of The 2nd Century of Women at Yale: Emerging Leaders in Internal Medicine series.

Tomorrow, November 6th, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, Dr. Evelyn Hsieh, Associate Professor of Medicine (Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology), will present “Going Far, Going Together: Advancing Global Rheumatology.” The session will explore disparities in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, highlight key collaborations in global rheumatology, and connect to the work of the Yale Rheumatology Program in Global and Community Health.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Moustafa Abdallah MD, MPH, MHCM, Senior Health Economist at the World Bank, back to the Yale School of Public Health.

Dr. Abdalla will share insights on “Innovative Financing for National Hepatitis C Elimination: Lessons from Egypt’s Experience” as part of two key sessions: The Yale Global Health Seminar (YGHS) and EMD/HPM 580 Reforming Health Systems: Using Data to Improve Health in LMICS

With over 15 years of experience in health system reform, pandemic preparedness, and innovative financing across Africa and the Middle East, Dr. Abdalla’s leadership continues to shape policies advancing universal health coverage and resilient health systems.

These sessions exemplify how YSPH bridges science and society—where evidence meets policy, and students engage directly with global leaders shaping the future of public health.

Exciting news 🎉 Dr. Ingrid Katz, MD, MHS, has been named the next director of the Yale Institute for Global Health, starting Jan. 1, 2026 (pending Yale Corporation approval).

She brings incredible experience in global HIV research and will lead YIGH in growing research, clinical, and educational programs that advance health worldwide.

We are excited to share that nationally recognized physician-scientist Dr. Ingrid Katz, MD, MHS, has been chosen as the new director of the Yale Institute for Global Health, effective Jan. 1, 2026, pending approval by the Yale Corporation.

As the director of YIGH, Dr. Katz will harness the expertise of Yale School of Medicine, Yale School of Public Health, Yale School of Nursing, and Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs to lead the expansion of global health activities across Yale’s campus and beyond the university. These efforts will include the development of innovative research, clinical, and educational programs that translate scientific discoveries into improved health for all and prepare future global health leaders.

Trained in infectious diseases, Dr. Katz’s global health expertise extends from Southern Africa to Southeast Asia, where she has led and supported federally funded projects focused on improving the health of people with HIV.
