Clifford Beers

Clifford Beers A nonprofit innovating mental health care for children and families in Connecticut since 1913.

Mental health and support services for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. We are a nationally recognized provider of trauma-informed mental health care for children, adolescents, and adults. We serve as the safety net for children and families in the greater New Haven area who cannot afford or gain access to private mental health care. Our whole-family, trauma-informed, integrated model of care is designed to reduce chronic stress and build healthy and supportive connections. The children and families we serve are incredibly resilient, and we believe every individual deserves compassionate and individualized care that improves their health, resiliency, and quality of life. We accept Medicaid (HUSKY) as well as several commercial health insurance providers.

A Thanksgiving Message from Our Executive Director:

As we move quickly into the holidays...I want to pause and acknowledge the mix of feelings it can bring. For many, this uniquely American holiday offers a chance to rest, be with family, cook and eat a lot, and find a bit of warmth in the colder season. For others, especially Indigenous communities, this time carries a different weight. The traditional story many of us learned growing up, a peaceful feast shared between colonizers and Native people, leaves out the violence, loss, and generational trauma that followed. That history is not abstract. It lives on in the families and communities we serve, and in the colleagues who carry their own connections to that legacy.

As a trauma informed organization, we make space for the fullness of these truths. We can hold gratitude and joy while also honoring the pain embedded in this holiday for so many.

Thanksgiving became a national holiday not because of an early gathering but because Lincoln declared it during the Civil War, in an effort to bring unity and humanity back into a violently divided country. That hope for connection and shared responsibility to move this country toward the common good, the simple act of caring for one another, feels as urgent today as it did then. That spirit is what guides our mission every day.

I am grateful...and I hope the holiday and the days after bring you the rest and warmth you need.

With Gratitude,
Ilaria Filippi, LMFT

Did you know November is Native American Heritage Month?

November honors Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the histories, contributions, and continued strength of Indigenous peoples. Mental health is rooted in story, community, and culture- values long practiced in many Native communities.

This month, we invite reflection, learning, and listening.
Supporting mental health means honoring lived experiences and uplifting cultural wisdom.
