A common symptom this time of year is sinus congestion and pressure. Press and hold these 4 Acu points one at a time for 1-2 minutes each to help relieve discomfort. Use two hand to do both sides at once! 😄

Tense muscles lead to less blood flow to your muscles, and tissues not being nourished. This can cause what we call Qi stagnation or Blood stagnation in Chinese medicine, or pain, basically. If you have neck pain or headaches, try adding this simple stretching sequence to your day to help soothe stiff muscles. Add an acupuncture treatment to speed healing!

! I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts for a few days and it’s affected my sleep, so I stopped by my local Asian grocery store for some . This combo of licorice root and dried red dates makes a great decoction that is very relaxing. If you want to make a relaxing tea of your own, grab some dried dates and goji berries and simmer them for 15 minutes. Add honey for a tasty drink!

I know that licorice is good for me, but it can be contraindicated to take with certain conditions or medications, so check with your MD if you’re interested in trying it.

At the end of a project, a day, a week, or whatever may have been a big output of energy, it’s a great idea to take some time to consciously wind down.

This , yin tang, is right between your eyebrows and has the function of calming the mind. It’s often used for stress, anxiety, and insomnia. 😴 Press this spot and hold for a couple minutes, take deep breathes and relax your body. See how you feel!

Time change effects! Anyone else feeling super sleepy? 😴
Sometimes when I’m extra tired I start to feel some residual facial weakness creeping in. I take out my suuuuper fine needles and give myself a little , combined with some supporting constitutional points. It helps tone the muscles and increases circulation. If you’re interested in cosmetic acupuncture, DM me!

Happy Day after Halloween! 🎃Aka the start of accidental/on purpose overindulgence season. 😝
If you or someone you know has indigestion, bloating, or nausea, these two Acu points can be very helpful. Press until you feel a dull ache and hold 1-3 minutes.

LI 4 is on the Large Intestine channel in the muscle between the thumb and first finger. You can punch this point with your other thumb and first finger. It’s function for digestion is to clear the channel, and it helps with abdominal pain and constipation. (Avoid this one if you’re pregnant)
🦵
ST 36 is on the Stomach channel and is about 4 finger widths down from the base of the patella and one finger width from the tibia on the pinky toe side. It’s function is: it benefits stomach and spleen, harmonizes intestines and disperses stagnation, tonifies qi and blood, dispels pathogens, and prevents diseases. It is good for gastric pain, vomiting, hiccup, abdominal distention, borborygmus (rumbling stomach), diarrhea, dysentery, and constipation.

Hi! In case you haven’t met me, I’m Katrina, the owner of Haven Acupuncture. I started my clinic to create a space that can feel like a haven, a place to relax, heal, and renew, for each patient.

I first realized the power of acupuncture many years ago when I was recovering from a bout of Bell’s Palsy. I was intrigued by how strongly I felt a shift in my health, and was inspired to find out how to become an acupuncturist myself.

I studied in NYC and San Diego at the Pacific College of Health Sciences and completed thousands of internship hours, including at Rady Children’s Hospital. Following my graduation in 2014, I passed both my California State and the NCCAOM board exams. Currently I’m board certified and licensed in CT.

Looking forward to seeing you in my office!

I remember the first few times I ever had acupuncture, and thinking “Wow, I wish I could do this. I wonder if I can do this?!” (Or roughly something like that 😄). 5 years later I had my degree and a California license!
👩🏼‍🔬
Licensed acupuncturists spend years learning theory and and technique, and the licensing exams are no joke!! It’s all worth it, when I get to help someone feel better. 😊

Some of the books, both classic and modern, that I used throughout grad school. 📚I still refer to many of them frequently! 👩🏼‍🏫 Do you have go to books that you use on a regular basis?

The sooner you get acupuncture after an acute injury, the quicker your healing time with be.
Acupuncture can:
🌟Ease pain
🌟Reduce swelling
🌟Restore healthy blood flow
🌟Clear inflammation
Needles do not go in the injured tissue, rather adjacent to the area and in other parts of the body to encourage systemic healing.

Today’s self care.
1. Prepare a nourishing vegetarian chili for my family. 🌶🍅🧅 Will the kids eat it? Who knows! But I try. 😉 All those cooked veggies and spices are so good for the body.

2. Consciously drink more water, 💧because I noticed I’m filling everyone else’s water bottles but mine. It’s like the everyday version of “put your oxygen mask on first.” Fill your own water bottle! 🚰
