If your child can't stay awake for 4 to 5 hours between sleeps, they likely aren't ready for just one nap. It's a good rule of thumb to remember during transitions!

When we talk about 24 hour sleep, we are referring to the typical amount of sleep your baby sleeps in a 24 hour period. Even in children who struggle with sleep, this is relatively constant. If you track your child's sleep for 3-5 days you can get a good feel for this.

I love technology, and sleep trackers like the can be helpful, but some parents struggle with anxiety around monitors and tracking. The fact is, you don’t always need an elaborate monitoring or tracking set up— you just need to be able to hear your baby if they need you.

A common question I get asked is— how much light can there be on at night in my child’s room?

How do you know when it's time to drop a baby's nap? It all comes down to their sleep needs in a 24-hour period. The third nap is usually the first to go, and sometimes that means that bedtime goes earlier. Focus on lengthening the first two naps!

Sometimes, family dinners run late. Sometimes, your baby needs to sleep right now. And sometimes, telling relatives to “keep it down for naptime” just isn’t worth the stress. 😅

Here’s a pro move: Take a ride. 🚙 Pop them in the car seat, drive for 20-30 minutes, and let them catch that power nap. It’s not their usual sleep routine, but it works. Plus, YOU get a breather from the family chaos (and maybe some much-needed quiet time too). Win-win
Feeling overwhelmed by family sleep disruptions? You’re not alone. Flexibility is your secret weapon during the holidays. More tips like this (and plenty of parent confessions) in the latest episode of The Sleep Edit!

It's not really best practice to drug your kid to sleep with diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl) as a) it can actually make your kid hyperactive b)there are some major safety issues.

Is your little one suddenly fighting naps or staying up super late? Those can be big signs that they're ready to transition away from napping! If daycare naps are causing bedtime battles, don't hesitate to get your pediatrician involved. They can help!

As a kid, naps felt like punishment. Now? Glorious, absolute silence. Unless, of course, you have trouble sleeping at night... then maybe skip it.
