Some fun facts:
• Scrabble, invented in the 1930's by Alfred Butts, was rejected by major game manufacturers. But, in the 1950s, after a department store owner played it, Scrabble became a household staple.
• Candy Land, created by Elanor Abbot in the 1940s, was invented to entertain children recovering from polio.
• Monopoly, invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1904, was called "The Landlord's Game" to demonstrate the flaws of capitalism. Her game was later adapted by Charles Darrow into the version we know today...turning it into a massive money-making success.
• Jenga, invented by British game designer Leslie Scott in the 1970s, takes its name from the Swahili word "kujenga" which means "to build".
