High fiber is the new buzz word in health and it’s the next food fad you’ll find in everything. So is “fibermaxxing” which is exceeding the recommended daily allowance. Increasing fiber too quickly can cause painful gas and bloating. Processed foods don’t have the same benefit. Focus on whole food and not the trend of focusing on one nutrient, whether it’s protein or fiber.

Under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s guidelines, adults should aim for 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories they consume. That’s about 25 grams of fiber for women and 38 grams for men each day.
