Spring in Ayurveda is a season of gentle renewal.
As winter begins to soften, the body naturally starts to release some of the heaviness it may have accumulated during the colder months. In Ayurveda, spring is associated with kapha — the qualities of heaviness, coldness, and moisture — and as the weather warms, those qualities begin to melt and move.
This is often why spring can bring congestion, seasonal allergies, sluggish digestion, fatigue, or a general feeling of heaviness.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, this seasonal shift is not something to fear. It is often the body’s natural attempt to clear and rebalance. The invitation in spring is to support that process with simple, steady changes that create more lightness, warmth, and flow.
A few supportive spring practices include:
• beginning the day with warm water
• favoring lighter, freshly cooked meals
• using warming spices such as ginger, turmeric, and black pepper
• moving the body daily
• reducing cold, heavy, oily, and overly sweet foods
Even small shifts can be meaningful:
warm water or ginger tea instead of iced drinks,
or stewed fruit with spices instead of heavier desserts.
Ayurveda reminds us that living in harmony with the seasons can be one of the most powerful forms of medicine. Often, it is not the dramatic reset, but the small daily rhythm, that creates the deepest change.
This season, think less force, more flow.
