This time of year, I see a lot of people dealing with that heavy, blocked feeling in the head and chest. When congestion shows up, I usually keep things very simple.

In Ayurveda, the goal is to warm, thin, and gently move mucus so the body can clear it on its own. Small, consistent practices—started early—often make the biggest difference.

Here are a few things I commonly suggest:

Ginger tea
This is my go-to. Slice 1–2 inches of fresh ginger and simmer it in 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes. Strain and sip warm. Ginger helps loosen heaviness and support circulation. You can add lemon if you like. If using honey, add it only once the tea has cooled.

Ginger + black pepper
When congestion feels more stubborn, a small pinch of black pepper (about ⅛ tsp) added to ginger tea can help add movement. I keep this gentle, especially for people who tend to run hot or get reflux.

Tulsi (holy basil) tea
Tulsi is aromatic and clarifying, and I often use it for seasonal support and easier breathing. Steep 1 tsp dried tulsi (or a small handful fresh) in hot water for 10 minutes, covered. One to three cups a day during congestion is usually plenty.

Steam
Steam can be very helpful if kept short and gentle.
– Ajwain steam: hot water with 1 tsp ajwain, inhaled for 5–7 minutes
– Eucalyptus steam: hot water with 1–2 drops essential oil, inhaled for 3–5 minutes

With essential oils, I always say less is more—you want clear and comfortable, not intense.

I like these practices because they’re simple, supportive, and easy to return to when congestion first starts. I’ll be sharing more soon on dry cough support.

Flu season is here — and the earlier you start, the better it works. 🤧🌿

Here’s my Ayurveda-inspired prevention + first-sign protocol:

1) Neti / saline rinse (prevention)
The nose is a first-line entry point for many respiratory viruses. Saline rinsing can help clear mucus + particles, support mucociliary clearance (the airway’s built-in self-cleaning system), and keep the nasal lining hydrated + resilient.

Water matters: distilled/sterile or boiled + cooled (never straight tap).
Mix: 1/8–1/4 tsp salt in 1 cup warm (not hot) water.

Quick how-to:
Lean forward • mouth open • breathe through mouth
Pour slowly → drain → switch sides
Stop if burning or ear pressure (video demo coming)

2) Nasya (oil) — barrier support (best for dryness/irritation)
45–60 min away from shower/steam.
2 drops warm sesame oil / Anu taila per nostril
OR 2 drops on a clean pinky → gently massage just inside each nostril.
Avoid if fever, heavy congestion, or acute sinus infection. Less is more.

3) First sign in the throat: salt + turmeric gargle (2–4x/day)
1 cup warm water • ½ tsp salt • ¼–½ tsp turmeric
Gargle 30–60 sec → spit.

Save this for the week you need it. 🌿

If you’re new to Ayurveda, here’s the simplest way to describe it:

It’s a gentle, holistic system of care that helps you return to rhythm—through personalized support for routine, nourishment, rest, and lifestyle.

Rather than chasing quick fixes, Ayurveda looks at the whole person and focuses on steady foundations. Over time, that can mean more consistent energy, easier digestion, more restorative sleep, and greater resilience to stress.

If you’d like a grounded starting point, Initial Assessments are available in-person and virtually.

Small shifts add up. And when they’re personalized, they become sustainable. 🤍

If you’d like support that fits real life, Ayurvedic Initial Assessments are available in-person and virtually.

Holiday gifting doesn’t have to be more stuff.

If you’re looking for a meaningful gift this season — not just another thing that’s unwrapped and forgotten, but something that truly reflects your love and care — this is what comes to mind.

This time of year reminds me that many people are craving the same thing: to feel more balanced, grounded, rested, and joyful — and to step into their fullest potential.

That’s why giving the gift of Ayurveda feels so meaningful — gentle, individualized support that strengthens daily wellbeing in a way that feels natural and sustainable. Rooted in a holistic, yogic tradition, Ayurveda offers tools and insight people can return to again and again, through every season of life

Have you ever felt your mood, energy, or digestion shift as the seasons change? 🍂
In Ayurveda, this isn’t random — it’s rutucharya, the art of living in sync with nature’s cycles.

Fall’s cool, dry air amplifies vata dosha, which can make us feel scattered, anxious, or dry — both inside and out. But when we ground through warmth, nourishment, and rhythm, the season becomes deeply restorative.

✨ Warm, cooked meals
✨ Self-massage with sesame oil
✨ Regular routine & early bedtime
✨ Cozy clothes & gentle yoga

These small shifts align body and mind with the season — nature’s own preventive medicine. 🌿

✨ Ayurveda teaches that true balance begins with understanding your constitution — your dosha.
Your dosha reflects natural tendencies in body, mind, and energy. It shapes how you respond to food, stress, seasons, and even sleep.

🌿 By noticing these patterns, you can begin making diet and lifestyle choices that support your unique balance. For example, someone with more Vata may thrive on grounding, warm foods, while Pitta often feels better with cooling routines.

This quiz is just a starting point. In classical Ayurveda, a full assessment includes many more questions, along with pulse and tongue diagnosis. Some people may be dual-doshic or even tridoshic.

✨ Still, reflecting on your natural tendencies is a powerful way to start — and can guide you toward healthier daily rhythms.

For deeper guidance, and to ensure recommendations are tailored specifically to you, it’s always best to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

👉 Swipe through to take the quiz, save this post to revisit later, and share your dosha in the comments!

✨ Stress, low energy, and restless sleep — sound familiar?
One herb has been getting a lot of buzz lately: Ashwagandha 🌿

In Ayurveda, Ashwagandha has long been known as a rasayana — a rejuvenative herb believed to support strength, vitality, and resilience. Its name literally means “smell of a horse,” reflecting the stamina and grounding it’s traditionally associated with.

Today, it’s everywhere — in teas, powders, capsules, even wellness blends at your local shop. But Ayurveda reminds us: what’s medicine for one person may not be right for another.

Why people use it:
💆‍♀️ May help calm stress & lower cortisol
😴 Can support deeper, more restful sleep
⚡ Can boost stamina & recovery after exertion
🧘‍♂️ Supports balance, focus & resilience

But here’s the catch:
👉 Ashwagandha is slightly warming (🔥), which can be stabilizing for some, but too heating for others.
👉 Not recommended in pregnancy, certain autoimmune conditions, or with uncontrolled thyroid/liver issues.
👉 As always, quality matters — look for products tested for purity.

🌿 Ayurveda’s wisdom:
“Everything can be right for someone, yet nothing is right for everyone.”

✨ If you’re curious about trying Ashwagandha, start gently, listen to your body, and seek guidance from a practitioner when possible.

☀️ As summer winds down, I’m soaking up all the sweet memories — travel, fun meals, laughter, and maybe a little overindulgence (because that’s what summer’s for 💛).

But with all that fire + heat of the season 🔥, our bodies can start showing signs of imbalance: breakouts, sluggish digestion, heart burn, irritability, or just feeling “heavy.”

🍂 That’s why fall is the perfect time for a gentle pitta cleanse — a reset to cool, balance, and prepare for the shift into autumn with more ease, clarity, and energy.

🌿 Curious what a seasonal cleanse looks like? Or how it could support you this fall? Share your thoughts below — I’d love to know what “reset” means for you right now. ✨
