Proud Pregnancy 🤍

This photo is shared with permission as a quiet reminder of what consistent, supportive care can help make possible.

Acupuncture supports fertility by working with the body’s own regulatory systems (hormonal, nervous, circulatory, digestive, and even emotional). Whether someone is trying to conceive naturally or going through IVF, the goal is the same: to create the most receptive, well-resourced internal environment possible for a little one to thrive.

For natural fertility, acupuncture can help by:
• supporting regular ovulation and balanced cycles
• improving blood flow to the uterus and ovaries
• calming the nervous system (stress and fertility are deeply linked)
• addressing underlying patterns like inflammation, pain, or hormonal dysregulation

For IVF, acupuncture works alongside modern reproductive medicine. Research suggests it helps by:
• improving uterine blood flow around transfer
• supporting endometrial receptivity
• regulating stress hormones that can interfere with implantation
• helping patients feel more grounded and supported during an intense process

Every fertility journey is different. Every body has its own timing. But supportive, individualized care can make a meaningful difference along the way.

This treatment worked through the inner and outer Bladder lines, focusing on the Heart–Pericardium–Diaphragm axis of the nervous system.”

Along both sides of the spine run two parallel acupuncture channels known as the Bladder meridians. In classical Chinese medicine, these lines form the deepest communication pathway between the internal organs, the autonomic nervous system, and our emotional life.

The inner Bladder line contains the Back-Shu points — direct reflex points for the organs. In this treatment I worked primarily with the Heart (BL15), Pericardium (BL14), and Diaphragm region (BL16–17), as well as Kidney (BL23). This is the network that governs emotional regulation, relational stress, shock, breath, and the body’s capacity to soften rather than brace.

These points regulate how much pressure the nervous system can hold before it tightens or collapses.

The outer Bladder line holds how the body has adapted over time, or the imprint of long-term stress, emotional strain, and vigilance stored in the tissues.

For this person, the story lived in the upper back and chest: emotional load, nervous-system fatigue, and persistent holding. Rather than treating pain in isolation, I worked through these two layers, allowing the body to reorganize itself from the inside out.

Clinical Red Flag 🚩: Unintentional Weight Loss

A 44-year-old female presented for acupuncture for fatigue, sleep disturbance, and feeling generally unwell. On intake she reported a 12-pound weight loss over 4 months without intentional changes in diet or activity. She denied pain, acute illness, or significant gastrointestinal symptoms. She remained functional but described a progressive decline in baseline energy.

Because unintentional weight loss represents a systemic red flag, she was referred for medical evaluation prior to treatment.

Laboratory workup revealed hyperthyroidism.

She returned for acupuncture after medical management to support nervous system regulation and recovery.

Clinical note:
Unintentional weight loss is often overlooked because it is painless, gradual, and frequently perceived as desirable.
However, it may reflect underlying endocrine, hematologic, autoimmune, infectious, or malignant processes.

Teaching point:
Progressive change in baseline function warrants medical assessment before complementary care.

Pattern: recurring physiological themes
Observation: what repeats itself across systems
Context: fertility and whole-body function

In clinical practice, certain signs tend to cluster together… not randomly, but as part of a larger pattern.

Cold hands and feet, slow or heavy digestion, fatigue, and a sense of internal cold often point to what Chinese medicine calls Spleen Yang deficiency—a system struggling to generate and distribute warmth and nourishment.

Pattern: Spleen Yang deficiency
Observation: cold limbs, digestion, energy, dampness
Context: fertility support

This pattern can matter in fertility, as warmth, circulation, and digestion are foundational to reproductive health.

Importantly: pattern recognition guides inquiry, not conclusions. Even within the same pattern, each individual expresses it differently. Treatment is always tailored to the person in front of us, not the label.

✍🏼Case study:
Following a motor vehicle accident, this patient presented with PTSD symptoms, cervical whiplash, chronic migraines, and persistent neck and shoulder pain, along with signs of autonomic nervous system dysregulation and musculoskeletal compensation.

Treatment consisted of acupuncture + cupping 1–2 times per week over approximately 9 weeks. Care focused on nervous system regulation, reduction of migraine activity, restoration of cervical range of motion, and release of myofascial restriction in the neck, jaw, and upper back.

Outcomes included:
• Significant reduction in migraine frequency and intensity
• Increased cervical range of motion
• Decreased pain and inflammation
• Improved nervous system regulation with less anxiety and hypervigilance
• Greater sense of calm, clarity, safety, and overall bodily centeredness

This case highlights how trauma recovery often requires addressing neurological and musculoskeletal systems simultaneously.

Touch is where medicine begins. 🫶🏼

Beyond the learned in the pages of a book, Acupuncture requires listening with the hands, sensing tone, temperature, resistance, and ease in the patient. Over years of working with bodies, something subtle changes: the points begin to reveal themselves. Not as abstractions, but as living places that can be felt.

Bedside manner is not an “extra.”
It is a necessary part of the treatment.

How a practitioner enters the room, how they place their hands, how they attune to the nervous system—these things matter. Touch can calm, invite trust, and signal safety. In that state, the body becomes receptive to change.

A patient made this painting for me using my logo, in the Japanese Enso tradition — a single brushstroke expressing presence, wholeness, and imperfection.

The characters reference trust and family.
This practice feels like both to me… a place that grounds me, just as I hope it offers grounding to others.

I’m deeply moved by this gift, and by the relationships that grow quietly through this work.

Winter can be beautiful — and also heavy.
Shorter days, colder weather, less sunlight, and more time indoors can quietly amplify anxiety, low mood, fatigue, and emotional stagnation for many people.

From an acupuncture perspective, winter is a time when the body naturally turns inward. When we’re already sensitive, overworked, or depleted, this inward pull can tip into depression, worry, rumination, or feeling “stuck.”

✨ How acupuncture can support mental health in winter:
• Regulates the nervous system and calms stress responses
• Supports sleep and circadian rhythm disruption
• Improves circulation and energy flow when the body feels sluggish
• Helps process emotions that feel stuck or heavy
• Nourishes the systems most taxed during winter (Kidney + Heart in Chinese medicine)

Acupuncture doesn’t force happiness — it gently creates the conditions for balance, resilience, and steadiness, even during the darker months.

If winter feels harder than it “should,” you’re not alone. Your body may just be asking for deeper support. 🤍
