🦷 Phase I treatment can make a big difference when a child has a Crossbite.
👧🏼If the top jaw is too small, the teeth don’t fit and the patient bites to one side (left here). This shift puts the chin left as well. Growth is now uneven and we have a facial assymetry.
👩🏻‍⚕️ When we correct the Crossbite early (age 8) the patient has a full growth spurt following this and we typically see the chin eventually recenters with time.

⏳Treating a Crossbite at the right time is not just about straight teeth, it’s about creating the foundation for a healthy bite and a balanced lower jaw.

It is so lovely to treat these patients for an extended period of time and get to know them, their story and see their smile when we are done. Beyond that, I carry so many of these stories with me for life.

This was a difficult case, especially for clear aligners. We started with severe crowding, the canine on the bottom was not even visible in the mouth. This patient stuck to the plan and was able to get an amazing result from their clear aligners in addition to some brackets and elastics to bring the left canines down.

Lucky to do what I do everyday! ❤️

What is a Crossbite? When the top jaw is too small the back teeth don’t fit together properly. See how the top teeth are leaned inside of the bottom teeth, they should actually sit on the outside.

Left unfixed, once growth is complete we often have an uncentered chin, tooth wear and a variety of other issues as well.

This is something that is time sensitive. Our ability to expand the top jaw ends around age 14 or 15.

Aligners and elastics for this teen patient!

He did awesome with both the aligners and elastics and we were able to achieve this amazing outcome in 18months!

Straight teeth are nice, but a perfect bite provides a lifetime of health and function.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

I hope your cinnamon rolls are as good as ours were! It was a King Arthur mix. We made them from scratch and then used dental floss to cut the roll! 🥰

Expander and braces for this kid!

This lovely patient was in braces for 15 months!

I want to use this case to educate on tissue changes with braces. Anytime we are closing space, we often see the tissue bunch like this, even with good hygiene. This resolves completely in a few weeks!

If we retake these pictures in a few weeks the tissue should look flat again.

Things that help: water flossing, regular flossing, warm salt water, good brushing, and regular dental cleanings!

Teen aligners
