🦷I show a lot of the “same” cases because this is so common and SO easy to treat if we catch it early.

🦷Why do we want to see kids at age 7? GROWTH!

🦷If they have a small palate and bite to the side, the lower jaw will grow asymmetric and they will always have a chin that is not centered.

👧🏼If we correct this at age 7, they can go through their growth spurt and the chin will re-center!

🤓Look at the change in palate and width of smile here!

I’m teaching myself to crochet recently and I’m really enjoying it as a way to unwind. With the crazy weather I’m finding it hard to walk outside, which is my go to.

🙋‍♀️Hello to the kindergarten families who may be finding our office this week after their kid came home talking about teeth!
🏫For kids dental health month I went to Dolsen, Hardy, Salem and Brummer to speak to the kindergarten classes about teeth!

👧🏼I’ve heard the kids went home saying “We need to brush my tongue, mom!” Or simply, “I saw Dr.Chrissy today!” from the kids who know me because they come in with their older siblings! 🥰

Biggest takeaway this year, try not to say 6-7. 🤣 But that’s the age you typically lose your first tooth and also when we recommend you have your first appointment with the orthodontist!! 🤓

So, if all you know is 6-7, we are ready to see you this summer for their first visit! And they are ready too!

🧒🏼This teen braces patient did amazing with their rubber bands! If you look at the side shot, look at where the bite started, and how we finished fitting together like a perfect puzzle.

🔥The real winner here is the patient, who will benefit from this amazing bite for a lifetime and experience less wear of their teeth!

❤️❤️For Valentine’s Day we asked the kids to write something on a heart to hang on the wall. ❤️❤️

🦷Do not wait to see the orthodontist until all of the permanent teeth are in.

🦷We have a 13 year old with a lot of baby teeth and two “ectopic” or misplaced canines. Without intervention these teeth were not coming in!

🦷 We removed the baby canines, made space, and the canines were able to drift in to the proper position without needing oral surgery!

👧🏼 We don’t typically start full treatment with baby teeth in the mouth, but we needed to create space and this patient was already 13! It was 2 1/2 years in treatment, but a lifetime with a beautiful smile!

👩🏻‍⚕️We recommend all kids see the orthodontist at age 7!

**Typically kids have all of their permanent teeth at age 12, but occasionally we have kids who still have many baby teeth at age 14 or 15.

🤓February is children’s dental health month. This is the third year I will be visiting our kindergarten classes at the nearby elementary schools!

👩🏻‍⚕️ First, I like to explain how teeth are so important for eating and also talking!!! And we only have two sets, so we need to take care of them.

🥤We start by going over how much sugar is in drinks and how sticky foods like crackers and candy cause cavities.

🪥 Then we go over how to brush and floss. And I always remind the kids that they should ask their parents to help them brush before bed to make sure all of the plaque is gone.

🙋‍♀️When can kids brush on their own? It depends. Whenever they are old enough to reach all spots in their mouth and not leave any plaque. Typically 5/6 year olds are not able to do that. They don’t have the dexterity or patience.

🦷We end with talking about loose teeth and read llama llama loose tooth drama! 🥰🥰

👧🏼My favorite is at the end when I ask who has a question and they all tell me a story! I’ve learned over the years that kids love to participate and share stories! So I try to design it so everyone has a chance to feel seen. ❤️. Raise your hand if you lost a tooth, raise your hand if you go to the dentist. 🙂
