STATUE OF ST. THERESE MOVED TO FRONT OF OLD CHURCH TODAY: The statue is one of numerous St. Therese statues donated by Vermillion Parish Senator Dudley J. LeBlanc (1894 – 1971), to area churches throughout Acadiana. Along with St. Anne here in Youngsville, St. Mary Magdalen and S. Therese (both in Abbeville), Sacred Heart in Morgan City, and churches as far away as Alexandria and Plattenville (stretching across four dioceses) are among the churches so honored.
Senator Dudley LeBlanc was a devout Catholic and had a strong devotion to St. Therese, frequently imploring her intercession. It was this devotion that lead to his generous donations of her outdoor marble statues. His generous legacy continues today as we move the statue to its new spot.
St. Therese had a great love for the priesthood and promised that she would spend her heaven particularly interceding for priests. It wasn’t planned this way, but today is Holy Thursday, the birthday of the priesthood. What a fitting day, arranged by heaven, to erect St. Therese’s statue in its new spot.
