🧸🌟ST + OT APPROVED TOYS🧸🌟

Here are a few toys we love to use to target goals that can also be used at home!
Cause and effect toys are a fun way to engage your child with play to target early language using simple commands (open, push, go, pop), labeling colors and naming animals! Sensory toys can help your child reach their sensory needs with yoga ball, pop it toys, sensory bins and sensory socks! Fine motor can be targeted using hiding beads in play dough, manipulating strengthening putty, and using strategy games by collecting small balls using pinchers (tweezers). Language skills for older kids can be strengthened using engaging board games, flash cards and matching games!! Learning is everywhere! 💜

Fun oral motor activity 🌎🎨

Let’s make abstract art… or is it an aerial view of Earth?! 🌍
(Planet awareness… let’s take care of our planet 💚)

Using paint, a straw, and a plate, our kiddos blew vibrant “planet” colors across their canvas—then added texture with a ball of foil to bring it to life.

This activity targets:
• Oral motor skills (controlled blowing)
• Descriptive language (colors, textures, concepts)
• Sensory exploration (messy play for the win!)

Bonus: flowers are “blooming” all over our little Earth masterpieces 🌸✨

Miss Maria and her client are reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar with their very own caterpillar 🐛📚 while targeting story retell through describing task cards (colors, shapes, categories, and functions) 💬✨

Making literacy come to life, one sound at a time ✨

Using Lively Letters, we paired each letter with fun visuals and memorable stories to build strong sound-letter connections. Then we turned learning into a game of hiding letters around the room, finding them, and bringing them back to build CVC words!

Our client practiced decoding by blending sounds to read each word and encoding by segmenting sounds to spell them. This provides hands-on, engaging, and meaningful learning every step of the way 🧠

Group therapy done right 🎉

Using the Pete the Cat Cupcake Party board game, we target multiple goals at once while keeping kids engaged and interacting:

• 🤝 Peer play – practicing shared space, joint attention, and cooperative play
• 🔄 Turn taking – waiting, requesting turns, and responding to peers
• 🎯 Differentiated goals – each space can be adapted (e.g., label, answer WH questions, produce target sounds, follow directions) based on each child’s needs
• 🧠 Following complex directions – multi-step instructions to move pieces, collect cupcakes, and complete the game

One game = individualized therapy + social learning + FUN 💙

Turning therapy into a fun challenge! 💨🥤

Today we used straws and cotton balls for an engaging breath support activity. First, we practiced strong, controlled exhalation by blowing cotton balls across the table into cups creating so much focus and friendly competition! Then we switched it up by inhaling through the straw to “catch” and hold the cotton ball, transferring it carefully into the cup.

This activity targets breath control, coordination, and oral motor strength. All while keeping kids motivated and having fun! 🎯✨

We’re feeling extra lucky today 🍀🌈

We read How to Catch a Leprechaun and brought the story to life by making our own leprechaun traps! Using rainbow strips of paper, the kids practiced:
✂️ Cutting skills
🌈 Identifying and sequencing colors of the rainbow
☁️ Gluing cotton balls to create fluffy clouds

This activity was the perfect mix of speech + OT:
🗣️ Targeting language through storytelling, describing, and following directions
🖐️ Building fine motor skills with cutting, gluing, and placing materials

Hands-on, play-based learning that keeps them engaged while hitting so many goals!

Sometimes speech sounds need a little extra help sticking the landing! 🦆✨

Ms. Maria and her client practiced final /k/ by giving our duck a special tail! When the “k” goes on the end, we hear that strong “quack” sound at the back of the mouth. Adding visuals like this helps our kiddos see and feel where the sound belongs.

Learning through play makes practicing sounds way more fun! 🗣️💛

Rainy days = the perfect time for a little speech + sunshine ☀️🌧️

Today we read “Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses” and made a bright, colorful craft to match! While creating our shades, we worked on following directions, answering WH questions, expanding vocabulary, and sequencing the story.

Even on a rainy day, we can still find ways to brighten things up in speech therapy 😎✨
