Hello Everyone �,

I am excited and proud to announce the start-up of my own Sensory-Based Occupational Therapy Private Practice. I began my occupational therapy career at a deaf school during the first week of state shut downs from covid. I work diligently with a team of compassionate therapist ranging from speech therapist, audiologist, psychologist, social workers, American Sign Language Coaches, low-vision specialist, etc.. Utilizing the skills I have observed and studied with my coworkers; I am eager to create a safe, comfortable, open and inspiring practice which will aid the sensory needs in the eastern portion of Connecticut. I am completely an intensive sensory based training inspired by Jean Ayers, the founder of the “Sensorimotor” Framework for occupational therapist. I have numerous years of experience working along side children with different diagnosis with duel diagnosis pertaining to a sensory integration/processing disorder. I have over ten years experience with communicating through the use of American Sign Language. In addition, I have had the opportunity to sit down and sign with a plethora of deaf-identifying individual to capture a glimpse into their diagnosis’s, language, culture and issues surrounding sensory issues. While attending my graduate program, I researched the Gross Motor/ Fine Motor impacts of occupational therapy with deaf or hard of hearing children. I then, had the opportunity to continue my research through my work at the deaf school. I am excited for the next few years and even the next few months.

“Second Saturday Playgroup is back at 10am on November 8th!
Everyone’s different; let’s be different together.
A monthly, meet-up group for multi-age neurodivergent, special needs, all-abilities children. Join Occupational Therapist Miss Shaleen for open-ended play and activities for the children, community building with the parents, caregivers, and siblings. Each month, we will explore fine and gross motor skills as well as sensory activities connected to a monthly theme.

This All-Inclusive Playgroup meets the second Saturday of each month at 10 am.”
