Postpartum preeclampsia is a serious condition related to high blood pressure. It can happen to any woman who just had a baby. It has most of the same features of preeclampsia or other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, without affecting the baby. It most commonly occurs within the first 7 days of delivery; however, women are still at risk up to 6 weeks postpartum.

Signs & Symptoms:
❗High Blood Pressure (140/90) or 10-15 above your normal)
❗Headache that will not go away
❗Vision changes
❗Stomach pain
❗Swelling in hands and face
❗Feeling nauseous or throwing up
❗Shortness of breath

Postpartum patients at Yale New Haven Health will now receive orange bracelets as part of the Connecticut Urgent Maternal Warning Signs Bracelet Initiative — a statewide effort to reduce preventable pregnancy-related complications and save lives.
