If you're raising a child through adoption, foster care, or kinship care, this one's for you.
Does your child ask questions about their birth parents, or about life before joining your family?
These questions are a natural part of your child's journey to understand who they are — and they can be hard to navigate, especially when you don't have all the answers.
Green Valley Therapy is offering a workshop specifically for adoptive, foster, and kinship families: Guiding Your Adopted Child Through Questions of Identity, led by Becky Marksteiner, LCSW-C, an adoption-competent therapist.
In this first workshop, you'll explore ways to talk about your child's past in age-appropriate, honest ways, including what to do when you don't have the full picture. You'll learn how to support your child's connection to their birth family, culture, and community, while also honoring your own role as their parent. Becky will also introduce Life Books, a meaningful tool for supporting identity development over time.
This series is grounded in evidence-based research on identity formation and permanency, inspired by Seven Core Pillars in Adoption and Permanency by Sharon Kaplan Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon.
Identity develops over a lifetime. Your role in helping your child navigate it now matters deeply.
