"Our surgeon, Dr. Timothy Pettitt, met with us on a Saturday at Manning Family Children’s. He sat with us and walked us through exactly what life would look like. Meeting him, we knew immediately that he had an amazing gift for saving babies like ours.

The road ahead wouldn’t be easy; it would require a minimum of three open-heart surgeries. But Dr. Pettitt gave us so much hope. By the grace of God, if Jules was strong enough, she could make it. Choosing Manning Family Children’s for her care was one of the easiest decisions we ever made."

This Black History Month, we're honoring Dr. Shawn McKinney! Dr. McKinney has been a surgical breast specialist for over 20 years, and she is currently a Professor of Clinical Surgery at LSU.

Dr. McKinney regularly works with multidisciplinary teams to deliver the best treatment because she believes patient knowledge and involvement throughout the process is important. She believes in a holistic approach, emphasizing the interconnectiveness of how both mental and social factors can strategically impact success.

Dr. McKinney is involved in organizations such as the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Cneter, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She has travelled to Haiti to bring her surgical skills on mission treats to educate, treat, and teach. Dr. McKinney is committed to continually expanding her skills to best serve the needs of patients.
