Members of DePaul Community Health Centers’ (DCHC) infectious disease outreach team participated in Kourtyard Karaoke, a fifth annual event coordinated by Concerned Citizens for A Better Algiers (CCFBA). The gathering, which purposely uses a “K” instead of a “C” for courtyard, gives participants of CCFBA’s various programs an opportunity to enjoy a festive time and to fellowship. Many of the CCFBA’s are impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Eric Stovall, infectious disease operations manager, participated as a judge for the second consecutive year and provided prizes, courtesy of DCHC, to the winners of Kourtyard Karaoke. Ricardo Hernandez, case manager; Tavillcia Hyman, medical assistant; and Samuel Ramirez, physician assistant, provided various medical screenings for CCFBA’s residents via DCHC’s medical mobile unit, which appears at CCFBA twice per month.

DePaul Community Health Centers' Community Health Navigators (CHN) Rodney Perkins and Sister Irma Vargas attended an outreach event for the homeless at the New Orleans Mission, Friday, November 28, hosted by Aetna. Both navigators distributed socks and blankets in a variety of shapes, sizes, and designs. Throughout the event, one CHN asked what color socks the participants would like to have and offered two pairs of whatever color socks that were requested. The other CHN distributed the blankets.

The CHN stationed at the blanket section allowed participants to select their own blanket rather than simply handing a random one to them. The CHN asked which color of blanket the participants would like to receive and engaged with them rather than treating the interactions as just another encounter.

The halls of DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC) were filled with music, laughter, and plenty of holiday spirit as DCHC staff brought Christmas cheer directly to each health center location in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes.

A joyful group of team members traveled from site to site, singing classic Christmas carols, sharing warm smiles, and handing out candy canes to staff along the way. Staff described the experience as uplifting and heartwarming.

More than 700 children and their families were served during DePaul Community Health Centers’ annual Toy and New Clothing Giveaway, a festive community event held on Saturday, December 20, at Thrive Community Center in New Orleans.

The event welcomed children ages 3–13 and provided free toys and new clothing on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers gathered from across the community to celebrate the holiday season while ensuring children received meaningful gifts during a time when many families might face financial strain.

This year’s giveaway was made possible through the collaboration of several dedicated community partners, including Thrive Community Center, the Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots Program, the American Culinary Federation – New Orleans Chapter, Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., many volunteers and other generous partners who share a commitment to supporting local families.

In addition to toys and clothing, children had the opportunity to enjoy photos with Santa Claus, creating special holiday memories. Photos were printed on site and handed to families the same day, allowing children to leave with a keepsake to remember the experience.
