Louisiana Cancer Research Center - LCRC

Louisiana Cancer Research Center - LCRC LCRC leverages Louisiana's major research institutions to advance cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

Each year, more than 28,000 Louisianans receive a new cancer diagnosis. The Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC) serves as a collaborative hub to advance research, improve cancer prevention, and accelerate innovative treatments. LCRC brings together the collective talent of more than 200 researchers from four institutions – Tulane School of Medicine, LSU Health New Orleans, Xavier University of

Louisiana, and Ochsner Health – to improve cancer outcomes for Louisianans and all those touched by the disease.

LCRC seed grant supports Tulane Cancer Center and LSU College of Engineering research collaboration >>> Elizabeth Martin, PhD, Tulane Cancer Center and Manas Gartia, PhD, LSU Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, are working on development of more realistic models of breast cancer. Using advanced 3D models that better mimic real breast tissue, their project focuses on how the tissue surrounding a tumor, especially changes that occur with age, can influence how breast cancer grows and responds to treatment. Our Story

The Louisiana Cancer Research Center's (LCRC) mission is to promote education and conduct research in the diagnosis, detection and treatment of cancer. LCRC brings together the four research and medical powerhouses in the state of Louisiana. Each partner contributes unique strengths to the LCRC. Originating partners, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and Tulane University Health Sciences Center bring an extensive research and education base, with a strong depth of scientific knowledge. Xavier University of Louisiana brings expertise in pharmacology, health disparities and minority health; and, Ochsner Health System adds depth to the clinical trials and medical framework needed to touch patients’ lives. LCRC also has a strong statewide community outreach and prevention education effort through our Tobacco-Free Living program. The LCRC's vision is to address the needs of the people we serve and win the fight against cancer.
