Hello Fisher Peds families! Just an update on flu. The US recently had our first pediatric death last week, and we are seeing an increase. You will hear on the news that the new strain of A (H3N2) is the majority of cases. It mutated 7 times (which is a lot) since the vaccine was produced. This will make cause the media to say it isn't matching, which is true, but what you may not hear is that it is decreasing pediatric hospitalizations by 70-75% and adult hospitalizations by 30-40%. This data is from England, where they have flu season earlier than us, but generally the same waves of flu. This is good news, no one wants to get the flu, but the main goals are to keep your child out of the hospital and to stop them from developing pneumonia and other severe consequences. This information is from the CDC.gov website. Even though the government is much less pro vaccine than it was, they state "influenza vaccination remains an effective tool in preventing influenza-related hospitalizations this season." It goes on to say "CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older who has not yet been vaccinated this season get an annual flu vaccine." Children under the age of five years old are considered high risk and the national recommendation is to treat them with tamiflu as early as possible.

I will post the link to the cdc in next post!

Hello Fisher Peds Families!! Some updates:
1) We are seeing a lot of flu, and some rsv and covid.
2) The portal is slowly improving, but they did not figure out yet how to fix the messaging issue. There is a work around. If you schedule a visit in the future, it will open up messaging with me or Caitlynn, whomever you schedule with. If you can't message, text me during work hours at 317 490 6494 and ask for me to make you a fake appointment on 1/1/2030. I will make the appointment and then test messaging me.
3) We will be closing by late morning on Christmas Eve. That is traditionally our big family day, and we would like to get the staff home as well. If you are sick (and I hope you aren't) for Christmas Eve, please call first thing in the morning (or message on the portal) to get the earliest available appointment.
4) As Follow My Health start working, you should start having the consent forms show up in your portal. Please please do those. An improvement with the new portal is it keeps track of how often you do them, so it will not ask you to sign the same forms over and over. Currently, for people whose portals are not working, we are having you sign old school paper, which is time consuming, wasteful, and boring! If you do it in the app, just tell us when you check in "Don't bother me with the busy work - I did mine online!"

Thanks, Dr Fisher

Help us, Help you
We have been receiving a lot of phone calls to refill ADHD, anxiety, and depression medications.
We cannot refill these medications without a 3-month medication check appointment. Medication check appointments allow us to ensure things are going smoothly, check vitals, and that the patient is not having side effects Please schedule your 3 month follow up when leaving your appointment to ensure no disruption in your medication.
This will save time for us, you, and the pharmacy.
