🔥Heating Assistance Available 🔥

Application Deadline: May 31, 2026

The Ohio Department of Development and the Area Agency on Aging, Region 9, want to remind older Ohioans that assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for a household of up to eight members and 60% of State Median Income for a household of nine or more members to pay their heating bills.

Applied directly to the customer’s utility or bulk fuel bill, the benefit can help manage heating costs. Older Ohioans may go to their local Area Agency on Aging office for help with assembling the required documents and completing their HEAP application. They may also visit www.energyhelp.ohio.gov to apply online or to download a copy of the application.

When applying, individuals need to have copies of the following documents:

• Most recent utility bills.
• A list of all household members (including birth dates and Social Security numbers).
• Proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members (12 months for certain income types).
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members.
• Proof of disability (if applicable).

HEAP benefits are applied to an individual’s energy bill after Jan. 1. Applications for the HEAP program must be received by May 31, 2026.

🌐 Apply online or download the application at: www.energyhelp.ohio.gov

Need help applying? 📞 Ohio’s senior residents may call the Area Agency on Aging, Region 9 at 800-945-4250 for local assistance or dial 800-282-0880 to connect with your Energy Assistance Provider.

DID YOU KNOW
The state of Ohio offers a permanent Driver's License Reinstatement Fee Debt Reduction and Amnesty Program, designed to provide relief to low-income individuals receiving assistance, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Ohio Works First (OWF).

Eligible indigent individuals may have their fees completely waived, while low-income individuals may receive a significant reduction of up to 50% or be required to pay 10% of the total fees, with a minimum monthly payment of $25.

To participate, applicants must submit BMV Form 2829 and provide documentation verifying their benefits.

The program operates as follows: indigent individuals receiving benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, or SSI may qualify for a full waiver, whereas low-income individuals who do not meet indigent criteria may be eligible for a reduced payment plan. In certain cases, the BMV may automatically enroll eligible individuals with current contact information on file; however, direct application is often recommended.

For those who don’t know, I am on the podcast Living the Revive Life where we discuss various areas of life and how the Bible can help us navigate through those areas.

This most recent episode is about the Oil of Readiness and why we should be wise and prepared versus being foolish and unprepared.

We’ve done many series ranging from being patient and using the waiting period of our lives to prepare for what is come next. We have spoken about how God restores us. Where we are broken God is able to mend our brokenness and create us whole. Where we are called to be welcoming to the broken so that God can mend them.
