🎙️We’re live with EP 40 of MINDBEAT by Effective School Solutions: Regulating, Relating, and Reasoning: Applying the Neurosequential Model in Schools.

In this episode, Laine Whitaker and co-host Laura Butler of Sacramento City Unified School District welcome Katie Lohmiller and Halley Gruber, program directors with the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME), for a conversation about bringing neuroscience into everyday classroom practice. Together, they explore how understanding brain development can transform the way educators interpret behavior, respond to student needs, and build supportive learning environments. The discussion highlights common misconceptions about discipline and behavior change and practical strategies schools can use to implement brain-informed practices that strengthen both teacher efficacy and student well-being.

🎉 March is National Social Work Month, and we’re proud to join with the National Association of Social Workers to celebrate the incredible social workers who advance student mental health every day!

💙 In schools across the country, social workers are trusted advocates and steady supports for students navigating complex emotional and behavioral challenges. Their work not only changes individual lives — it strengthens classrooms and entire school communities.

🌟 We’re especially grateful to the Effective School Solutions clinicians delivering high-acuity, school-based care and to the district social workers we’re honored to partner with. Thank you for the compassion, expertise, and commitment you bring to your schools and communities. This month — and every month — we celebrate you!

📚 It’s National Education Association's Read Across America Day (and National Reading Month!) – and many of our school partners are celebrating with exciting book events and read-a-thons!

📘 Here at Effective School Solutions, we’re celebrating being IN a book – “The Fourth Tier, Modernizing MTSS for School Mental Health.” This must-read new book addresses the escalating mental health crisis among school-aged children, the responsibility of all school leaders to mitigate this crisis, and the process administrators can work through to develop a comprehensive plan to support all students. Spoiler alert: Effective School Solutions is included as a district resource to meet students’ mental health needs!

📙 Thank you to authors Armand Pires, Ph.D. and Ryan Sherman, DBH for including Effective School Solutions in your book and for shining a spotlight on our collective goal of creating in-school support systems that enable every student to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

We join the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) in celebrating National School Counseling Week, February 2-6, 2026!

School counselors support students in many ways: providing academic strategies, helping students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, planning for postsecondary options, and so much more. We are grateful for the partnership of all the school counselors who work alongside our clinicians to support the mental health and well-being of their students every day.

Who are the school counselors who made a difference in your life? Be sure to thank your local school counselors this week (and always)!
