Quick update from Choice of New York: we currently have a surplus of diapers (including pediatric and adult sizes) and sanitary products available for Choice clients at our White Plains office.

To add a show context that isn’t fully covered in the video: nationally, nearly 60% of people who rely on menstrual products report having struggled to afford them at some point, and adult incontinence supplies can cost anywhere from $50 to $200 per month, creating a major burden for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. These are not optional items, and the costs add up fast.

If you or someone in your household could use these supplies right now, please swing by. We are genuinely happy to support, and we recommend connecting with your Choice caseworker to coordinate pickup.

Huge thanks to the donors, volunteers, staff, and community partners who made this possible. This support exists because of you.

Heads up, Choice clients: our White Plains location currently has free diapers (pediatric and adult sizes) and sanitary products available. These basics are expensive, and they add up fast, so we want to make sure this reaches anyone who could use support right now.

If you need supplies, please contact your Choice of New York caseworker to coordinate pickup and confirm availability. And if you are not based in White Plains, still reach out. If you are connected to our Peekskill, New Rochelle, or other locations, let your caseworker know what you need so we can help guide you to the right option.

We are grateful we can support our neighbors thanks to generous donors, committed volunteers and staff, and our community partners who make these donations possible. Please share this post so it reaches someone who needs it.

Because at Choice of New York, performance is not just about showing up. It’s about showing up for our community. Our caseworkers bring skill, patience, and heart to the work every single day, helping clients navigate resources, benefits, and next steps, and making sure people feel supported along the way.

So yes, we’ll do the paperwork, make the calls, run the workshops, stock the pantry, and apparently… provide choreography too.

If you love our team as much as we do, help make this dance break worth it:
Like, comment, and share this post so more people learn about Choice and the support available.

Quick heads-up before tomorrow. Westchester’s Winter Storm Warning begins around 3:00 AM Sunday and runs into Monday evening, with 8–12 inches expected in many areas and the potential for a snow-to-sleet mix later Sunday.

We’re sharing resources specifically for White Plains, Peekskill, and New Rochelle because those are the cities where our offices are located.

If you can, plan to stay put tomorrow. If you have to be out, give yourself extra time and assume conditions may change quickly.

If you or someone you know needs a warm place, keep the Westchester 24-hour Warming Center Hotline handy: 914-995-2099.

And if you need care coordination or support navigating benefits related to housing, food, healthcare, or other essentials, contact Choice of New York. We’re here to help.

January is National Mentoring Month, and at Choice of New York, mentorship is part of how we support our clients every day.

Mentorship is not only advice. It is steady guidance, trust, and helping someone see a path forward when everything feels complicated. Our caseworkers do exactly that, walking alongside clients as they navigate benefits, resources, and next steps.

The photos above were taken at our White Plains location, including moments from a SNAP benefits workshop where clients gathered together to learn what support is available and how to access it. You will also see our pantry, stocked and ready to help meet real, everyday needs.

Choice provides case management and support connecting clients to essentials like food and other resources, plus education and tools that can make a difference in safety and stability. If you or a loved one needs support, you can visit one of our locations or learn more on our website: https://choiceofny.org/.

To our caseworkers and staff: thank you for going above and beyond, not just serving clients, but mentoring them with dignity, consistency, and care.

Unforgettable outreach to help get folks through the door and connected to real resources and support. 🚪🤍

Not everyone can “pull themselves up by their bootstraps”…because not everyone starts with boots. Some people are starting barefoot, carrying a whole backpack of life on their shoulders.

That’s why Choice exists: so support is not something you have to earn by suffering in silence. It’s something you deserve because you’re human.

Huge thank you to our very own Bob Marrone, who is a truly indispensable part of our team, for jumping into this video with us. Yes, we used a slightly silly trend. Sometimes a little humor is the spoonful that helps the real message land.

If you’ve ever needed a hand, a reset, a second chance, or just someone to see you, we’ve got you. 💛

Youth homelessness doesn’t always look like sleeping on the street.

Joy, a caseworker from our White Plains office, is speaking to one of the biggest flaws in the system. When a young person is staying on someone else’s couch, moving between friends’ homes, or temporarily staying with extended family, they are often not officially considered homeless. Because of that, they may be disqualified from critical resources and services they urgently need.

This happens far more often than people realize. A young person might be kicked out after conflict with a custodial parent or forced to leave an unsafe home environment. Technically, they “have somewhere to go,” so they don’t meet the narrow definition of homelessness, even though their housing is unstable, unsafe, and temporary.

As Joy puts it, it’s not that help is impossible to access. It’s that the system requires an exhausting amount of extra legwork. Paperwork. Appeals. Proof. Persistence. And that burden often falls on young people who are already navigating trauma, instability, and stress.

That’s where we step in.

At Choice of New York, we are committed to supporting those most vulnerable, especially young people falling through the cracks of rigid systems. We help navigate housing instability, health benefits, mental health resources, and more, even when eligibility isn’t straightforward.

Visit the link in our bio if you or someone you know needs support. We’re here to do the legwork, advocate fiercely, and meet people where they actually are, not where the system assumes they should be.

Mental illness doesn’t always look the way people expect it to.

Joy, a caseworker from our White Plains office, is reacting to a creator whose video unintentionally highlights a common misconception. That if someone is articulate, productive, calm, or “high-functioning,” they must be fine.

In reality, many people living with depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges become experts at masking their symptoms just to get through the day. They show up. They perform. They cope. And because the pain isn’t visible, it’s often dismissed, misunderstood, or judged.

This reaction is about naming the gap between societal perception and lived reality. What people think mental illness looks like versus what it often actually looks like.

At Choice of New York, we work to see past stereotypes and lead from an informed, compassionate place. If you need help accessing mental health resources, health benefits, or other forms of support, please visit the link in our bio. We’re here to help, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Just because someone is functioning doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling.

Throwback Thursday, straight from the archives.

This newspaper clip ran in The Standard-Star (New Rochelle), in the Our Town section on July 2, 1998 (Page 4). The caption notes Choice of New Rochelle recognizing Assemblyman Ron Tocci for his contributions to community mental health, and it also spells out something we still believe to our core: people deserve support that is accessible, respectful, and rooted in real life.

A lot has changed since 1998. The conversation is louder. The tools are different. We now have 988, and the U.S. transitioned the Lifeline to that 3-digit number in July 2022. But the need has not gone away. Westchester leaders have said nearly 18,000 people connected to the 988 call system in 2024, which is a powerful reminder that so many of our neighbors are carrying more than they should have to carry alone.

We are still here, continuing the work, connecting people to support, resources, and services, and showing up with care that is practical and human.

If you or someone you know needs support, reach out to us. You are not alone.
