On yesterday, Monday Breaks live, I spoke about The "window of tolerance" a term by Dr. Dan Siegel, explaining the ideal emotional state for daily functioning. Now, if you experienced trauma, especially unaddressed, your emotional state can be experienced in a narrower zone, making it tough to handle emotions and life.

Traumatized folx may struggle to stay present, often feeling threatened and defensive. Stress, even small things, can push them out of their comfort zone, leading to anger, anxiety, or dissociation. This infographic from that I often use to support my communities and students simplifies this, and can help you get familiar with your capacity and help guide your communities or clients through their emotional experiences.

Ideally, we want to be in our window of tolerance (see image) , where we are present and managing life in a way that is empowering even when challenges come our way.

Thank you Karen Tosoni , Co-Founder of After Awareness, Inc. , for inviting Refining Emotional Wellness , Founder Alex Cummings to be a guest speaker at yesterday’s Legal Abuse Awareness Day!!

The attendees received a full day of pivotal resources on what it means to experience legal abuse, as well as gain tools that perpetrators use to attempt to control their intimate partners.

Refining Emotional Wellness invited the attendees to be more trauma informed by way of connection and breathwork to emotionally regulate back to safety in time of crisis or overwhelm.

Thank you to both (also in this photo) , Chef Jenn Ruiz Santiago of La Diva Mexican Kitchen for keeping our bellies and energy well nourished and to the lovely Shinece Carr of Survivors Healing Sanctuary and After Awareness Inc board member for your powerful call to action to our community in Volusia County to show up for survivors with our resources and with empathy.

2. Consider a recent event or situation related to social unrest that deeply affected you. How has it influenced your perspective and what steps can you take to contribute positively to the ongoing dialogue and solutions?

3. Think about the sources of your information and the narratives you encounter. How can you diversify your sources to gain a more holistic understanding of the social issues at hand, and how might this broaden your capacity to create positive change in the world?

REPLAY : Nadi Shodhanam: Alternate nostril breathing

Please note wifi connection was a little shaky today 👎🏽

Benefits : Alternate nostril breathing helps regulate nervous system and supports the circulatory and respiratory systems as well. Calm the mind as it eases anxiety and depression.

How to do it:

Find a quiet space and sit down in a comfortable position.

Take your right hand and place your right thumb on your right nostril.

Inhale through your left nostril.

Place your right ring finger on your left nostril, and lift your thumb from your right nostril.

Exhale through your right nostril.

Inhale through your right nostril.

Place your right thumb back on your right nostril and lift your ring finger from your left nostril.

Exhale through your left nostril.

Repeat this cycle as many times as desired (5-10 minutes for full benefit)
